Hi all, dd2 is 3.6 and has first camhs app next for 'managing anxiety'. We saw camhs without her few months ago and relayed all previous info about how she doesn't sleep doesn't play with other kids yet and how the pead really didn't have a clue so palmed us off onto camhs.

What can we expects from them and what should I be asking them, for?
Her main issues are
She hates nursery really struggles parting from me but once settled seems ok. Still parell plays doesn't really initiate convo with other children. Very anxious about little things like people sitting behind her on buses and at nursery etc etc ridiculously fussy about food I'm surprised she's as big as she is, and she's currently on melatonin for sleep (sleeps with light on and has only just made move from our bed).

Thank you

I don't have experience with Cahms, it seems a bit weird path to take tbh , especially at such a young age.
I would suggest rather trying to get referral to OT trained in sensory integration and developmental paediatrician for social and communication issues.
But maybe I'm wrong and in your area it is common to go to Camhs...

hi there sanna

we don't have a CDC local to us, so CAMHS is the route we're on too.

they dx'd DD with ASD when she was 4yrs 10mths after 8mths of assessment and appts.

in our experience (remembering this might well differ) they ask lots of questions, give some answers to ours but their hands are tied when it comes to support. they are primarily used as a diagnostic service in younger children, but offer therapies for older ones (7yrs+)

if your DD has medication, CAMHS will probably stay the lead practitioner, especially as meltonin isn't licenced in UK for General Practice.

do you want to PM where abouts you are, OP?

i might be able to give you some more info if i know

Thanks guys. We are on wait list to see an OT as wellwe are in the south west, she went to the CDC as a baby /toddler but they said she was too intelligent (?!) Too attend anymore! The mind boggles!!! Pead referred her to camhs as he wasn't sure what to do next with her! It seems where we are unless the dc has severe needs there is no support and you're stuck in nomans land!
