Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Should I follow up this possible diagnosis further WWYD?

dd aged 13 years has just been on residential weekend trip for half term with a uniformed organisation. She has epilepsy and doesn't often go on such trips due to requiring medication etc.
Following the trip the leaders have talked with DH with concerns about dd's behaviour. They have suggested that she may have OCD because she is very particular about hand washing etc.
dd has been assessed by neurologists and paeds since birth due to prematurity and this type of condition has never been suggested before. They have assessed her behaviour and development as "normal". She has just had a school report with no such concerns raised. Am unsure whether or not to follow this further or even if these leaders are qualified to make this sort of "diagnosis". Any ideas about what to do would be appreciated.

how irritating of the trip leader to talk about conditions s/he isn't trained to diagnose. It perhaps warrants a word with whomever s/he reports to, however well-intentioned. Though might there be a bit of Chinese whispers as they spoke to DH not you?

Meanwhile I'm sure you will separate this out from the question about the hand-washing - is it indicating some kind of particular anxiety, etc? I think that anxiety can become a problem with any child at any age so perhaps separate it from the earlier assesments and even from the school assesment.

Do you think you will just a bit more of an eye on DD and see whether you feel there is more anxiety than would be expected?

We take it in turns to pick up dd from this group. So they may have talked to me if I had been there that week.
I don't think the handwashing is a problem really. It has got worse since they did infectious diseases in Science though!
She could be more anxious at the moment because a grandparent died recently.
As far as I know none of the leaders is medically qualified so am unsure why they are jumping to conclusions about this.

maybe have a bit of a word then about them using this sort of quasi-medical language.....
