Got an appointment with Paed, where I want to let rip about how rubbish things have been since we were transferred out of neontal clinics and follow ups to this paed a year ago. But aware that may not be productive. I have done tears, and getting the ps on side, but to no avail.

I know what I want, whatt I am asking for (a plan, some goals, more input, more physio, some idea of what the docs think about the future) but not sure whetehr to go in nicey nicey - which i really don't feel, or go in and say well nice says this, and you haven't done it, or that, or the other, and we want x, y and z by which date. I am expecting a battle and anectdoctally undestand she doesn't like bolshie, but I assume that is because she doesn't like being challenged.

Anwyone got any tips?

We have had a paediatrician who has been woeful at times.

I ended up writing to the CEO and PALS at the hospital.

My letter was not written in a vindictive way - just asking why certain questions hadn't been answered, why the delay between treatment etc. I listed all the points I wanted answers to.

Upshot is that I met a board manager to discuss our treatment, then had the paediatrician give me an appointment within the month to answer all points - as directed by the board.

The meeting was an hour and a half (apologies if you were that person behind me) - and she gave an answer to every question.

Would love to say that it really solved everything - it didn't. But, I did get a brilliant letter to use with educational matters out of it.

It also has given me plenty of ammunition if I decide to take matters further and make a full complaint about her competency.

Thought about asking for a second opinion and getting a different paed to deal with? It could be good to get a fresh eye on things.

Yes thought about a second opinion, and will actually be asking for a referral out of county for some treatment not available in my area ( which means I can ask without criticism). The difficulty we have is that ds is 2 and we will have to deal with paed for years.

It just seems so rubbish when neonatal was good. I do wonder why they put so much resource into nicu and saving life to just abandon you later.... When ds was born I was all or supporting nicu but now I would rather it went to older children as the resources seem to disappear the older the person gets.
