I feel awful

I just caught DS2 eating food out of the kitchen bin. Shock

He is 8 and has LDs and ASD (quite low functioning). I had popped upstairs to the loo and when I returned he was getting leftover toast out of the bin! Ugh.

I feel terrible. I feed him enough. He's overweight actually, but the fact he was rooting in a bin for food makes me feel awful. Plus I couldn't hide my revulsion that he had actually eaten some of it.

Sad

My boy has tried this too, do not stress, it is not so bad. My boy is just greedy and has no notion that bin food isnt ok. He too has LD/ASd, and is porky. At least he is now going on the trampoline a lot to work off the nosh!

Thanks for replying.

I'm more saddened by my reaction. I told him it was disgusting. I should have explained calmly why it wasn't acceptable. Instead, I just shouted and batted the food away.

I will live and learn.

Thanks again. x

Please don't feel bad, we all have knee-jerk reactions and say something we regret sometimes, you're only human.

I told ds1 (10 with ASD, so quite literal) at the weekend that everyone was unhappy because of him. Blush I should have said that everyone was feeling unhappy because of his behaviour that day and explained it better, but it just came out. I was tired, cross and not thinking and he was being a complete arse!

We had a chat later. I apologised for what I'd said and explained what I'd meant. I told him that me being tired and poorly wasn't an excuse for my behaviour, just as him feeling out of sorts wasn't an excuse for him to upset everyone and it's something we both need to work on and I told him that we are only human and make mistakes sometimes, but we need to learn from those mistakes.

Same goes for you, chalk it up to a learning experience and move on - and have a ((hug)) because I know how you feel. Smile

Fwiw, dh used to eat all the snack detrius that had been dropped on the school playground at breaktimes - and he's nt! Sometimes kids are just gross. I wouldn't be surprised if mine tried binnie pigging (as it's known in this house) if there was something they thought was tempting enough in there - unfortunately for them the dog is quicker off the mark and thinks the bin is his own personal feeding trough! Hmm Grin (The dog's nickname is Binnie Pig!)

Oh poor you :( knee jerk reactions happen, don't beat yourself up.

I turned my back on NT DS the other day while I was getting them in the bath. Found him a couple of minutes later up in the attic (where he is not allowed to go because of the open tread staircase) sitting in his own poo, eating it. I screamed the house down and poor DS cried for about an hour. I felt awful :(

MsNobodyAgain · 18/02/2013 12:33

Oh, thank you all so much. I am not alone!

He too has do the eating poo thing.

'Binnie Pig' made me laugh. Grin

I just wish he didn't tune out when I try to apologise. He's so blank. But, anyway, it could have been worse. I could have emptied the hoover bag over the toast before he got to it. Smile. Thankfully it was just resting on other stuff - which I don't really want to think about.

Oh god I shout too, don't worry about that! He's gotta learn!

Glad it cheered you up! Grin

Msnobodyagain, if you want I can dig out my thread posted on Christmas Day, where I walked into the lounge and found ds eating what I thought was a chocolate coin, only to discover that it was a lump of cat poo.

Please don't feel awful.

MsNobodyAgain · 18/02/2013 13:00

hazey and others, thanks for your help today.

You have helped me feel so much better and I have stopped retching
