ASD and travel sickness?

Is it connected? Are children with asd more likely to get it? Dd gets it if she is in the car for exactly 45minutes. I have a 4-5hr drive and a 9 hour flight in September any tips?

Could it be anxiety rather than travel sickness?

DD gets dreadfully anxious when travelling, affects her after about 20 mins, she complains of stomach pains, headaches and gets very shouty

she frets about journey times, going too fast, if she can see things she wants to stop and look at, if she's going somewhere new, all the sensory boxes are ticked because she's not in control

we keep her busy with games, headphones and even ear defenders on bad days - you've got lots of time until Sept, can you work on social stories and different distractions perhaps and find out if she's perhaps showing extreme anxiety or if she is having motion sickness, see your GP?

Im not sure if its anxiety or motion sickness its just that after about 45 minutes she vomits sooner if we are going somewhere fun and she knows about it. She sits in the front as she climbs out of her car seat. She has lots of games.

Thank you I will see if I can determine whether its anxiety or motion sickness I hadnt thought of that.

If its genuine travel sickness - Both By DC's get it one is ASD the other not, then travel sickness pills do help.
They don't always prevent sickenss completely though.

We have a potty in the back of the car in case of sickness as it is easy to grab and has no holes.
We carry spare clthes, wipes and bags.

As looking at things in the car rather than outside the car makes it worse, we download audiobooks and music to an MP3 player to listen with headphones and then they can still gaze out of the window and be a bit occupied too.
Other things are games - if your dd can play - so things like I spy, "I went to the shops and I bought etc that can be done while looking out of the window.
Flights are not as bad unless there is turbulance for the DC's and they have been fine watching films on a plane, colouring, playing card games/DS's drawing etc. - Mainly the trick was keeping them distracted for such a long time as they didn't really sleep much on a plane.
