Variance in VR scores...repost from education thread

Has anyone else's AS child demonstrated a huge discrepancy in their scores on VR tests? Mine bombed out in her grammar one but was given a scholarship to another school on the basis of her standardised VR score of 140. The only difference I could see between the testing procedure is that the pen/paper multiple choice one was poor and the online one was...well surprising. I mean, exceptional. Why such a massive difference if she is capable of 140!????

Could she have accidentally put a question in the wrong box, meaning the numbering was out and all questions wrong from then on? Easy to do, SN or no SN

My son had massive variance in his eleven plus scores across the board. His last practice he scored a total of 40% in the 3 papers they take here (VR, NVR, and maths) in a room of 20 students he did not know. In the real 11+ we asked for, and were granted, a small room (3students) and he passed. His VR was about 130. He said the presence of the unfamiliar students made it hard for him to concentrate, even though they were all working in complete silence and ignoring him. Luckily we listened to him, even though it sounded implausible, and his score more than doubled when he was in a smaller room. He has selective mutism and is quite socially phobic.

Thing is, with autistic students, the scores aren't necessarily a true measure of potential, as so much else can get in the way of their functioning.

My concern that what gets in her way is putting pen to paper...kind of important in school! Not sure how her SS would like her to only undertake online tests...
