Hello everyone, I have just joined mumsnet today, I have often read the topics here but have never contributed...I'm a single mum and I have two ds...my younger ds has aspergers, dyspraxia, add, and a few other quirks and foibles...looking forward to getting to know everyone...it's a big website so it will probably take me a while to navigate around and see how everything works...hope I don't make too many mistakes....

Hello and welcome

My boy has ASD and hyperactivity - although surprisingly did not get a full ADHD diagnosis

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname · 15/02/2013 18:42

Hello, Ellenora. Glad you've decided to join us. Smile

My DS2 has ASD and is 13 yo. He's also very active, but not ADHD. I reckon his activity is more down to sensory seeking behaviour. DS3 is quirky, too, but the least active child on the planet! I'm divorced these days and so find myself being a single mum.

Thanks so much for the welcome, forgot to say ds2 is 11, he is a very quiet child, he doesn't make friends really and he seems to prefer his own company, he does have obssessions though, harry potter and spiderman being the main ones...he can talk forever on these subjects and is very repetitive....his therapist recommended setting time limits on it, so usually he will talk for half an hour and then he knows to stop for a while...it saves my sanity...lol....I have also found that as he is getting older his spd doesn't seem as bad and he is more willing to try new things...

Welcome, it's lovely to have you here. Smile

Ineedmorepatience · 15/02/2013 19:21

Hi ellenora and welcomeSmile

This is a great and safe place but I would recommend staying away from the Am I Being Unreasonable board. It gets scary and sometimes nasty over there.

I have 3 Dd's with a mixture of diagnosed and undiagnosed Sn's Smile

Flappingandflying · 15/02/2013 20:00

Hi. I have flying boy who is now 18 and has asd, dyspraxia, dyslexia and some visual processing stuff and is lovely!

Crawling · 15/02/2013 20:04

Hi and welcome. I second the stay of am I being unreasonable for a little bit. I have 3 children ds7yo possible aspergers dd1 3yo autism and a dd2 1yo. This board has been a godsend to me and I hope it will be for you too.

Ellenora5 · 15/02/2013 20:25

The welcomes are lovely, much appreciated thanks, really glad I joined this board, it's great to chat to other parents of kids with special needs. Wow some of you really have your hands full, my older ds is 21 and has been a gret help to me and his brother, it's just me and ds2 at home now, big change for us here.

I will take your advice about the am I being unreasonable board, until I'm a bit braver :)..

Hello and welcome.

I have DD2 who has Aspergers. She's nearly 15. Hormones all over the place. It is. Um. Interesting.

Are you anywhere near Swindon? We're having a meet-up next Friday.

Ellenora5 · 16/02/2013 10:30

Hi TaggieCampbellblack....no not anywhere near swindon, thanks all the same, the teenage aspergers years must be interesting all right, not something I'm looking forward to at all...:( hope you are not getting to hard a time of it

Hello Ellenora this board is fantastic - I read more than I post but it has been invaluable Grin

My Ds current obsession are all the marvel superheroes ....I now know an awful lot about them all!

Ellenora5 · 16/02/2013 17:51

Hi Plus3...thanks for the welcome, isn't it amazing how they can talk for so long on one subject, and the knowledge they have is unbelievable. My ds also loves his numbers and words, he has countdown on series link.

Hi Ellenora :-)

I wanted to say hi & introduce myself too (I hope you don't mind me jumping on your thread!!)
I'm a bit of a lerker but thought I'd be brave this evening and say hello!
I have two children, the eldest who is almost 7 and diagnosed last November with ASD. He's a fantastic little boy who is an expert on anything computer/gaming related, specifically Mario, Sonic and tails and his current 'obsession' is Bin Weevils. He's also book mad, specifically The Diary of a Whimpy Kid which he reads and re-reads continuously.
Anyway, similarly to you, I have no idea where to start with this forum but just wanted to say hello and hope to meet a few friends :)

Ellenora5 · 17/02/2013 11:16

Hi Simone007

Jump away, no problem, hope you are coping with the diagnosis, it's hard in the beginning, but a bit easier once you know exactly what the problems are and can put a name to the them, my ds was 6 when he was diagnosed, Wimpy Kid fan aswell, isn't this forum lovely, delighted I joined up.

Hi and Welcome! To Simone too.

I have a DS with Asperger's who is 10.

I hope you'll find this board a source of help and support. It has been a complete saviour over the last few years for me.

Whatever little niggle or concern you have, you will find someone has been there before you and usually has a good suggestion!

coff33pot · 19/02/2013 01:11

High and welcome to you both :)

troutsprout · 19/02/2013 06:40

Helloooo
Smile
I have a big lad (15) with asd ,dyspraxia and hypermobility . I also have a dd who is 10 , nt and wise beyond her years.
Ds has never done the specialist subject monologues thankfully ...although he does them in his head which means he is ofton somewhere else
Anyway... Welcome to mumsnet
