Older ASDs - what do you do with them during the school holidays

I work full-time & I find the school holidays a nightmare. There are plenty of clubs / camps that my NT DC can go to, but I really struggle to find things that ASD DC can do.

What does everyone else do? Please inspire me!!!!!

They might besome clubs/groups for ASD in your area - ring your nearest ASD school and ask would be your best bet as they will know.

Where are you based? Would this help at all?

There are other similar schemes all over the place, I found that one by googling 'holiday clubs for children with ASD UK', but if you have a go adding your specific area there may be something.

Also, what are his/her special interests. Often local councils run things like animation workshops, computer related workshops etc over school holidays, would something like that be any good?

My Ds goes to a special ASD school & they have no suggestions!!!!! So frustrating.

I can't work part-time, as there is only me & if I don't work, we'd be out of our house!!!

moosemama - thank you - that is helpful. We're just outside SW London, so some bits of London would be possible. I am now typing in holiday clubs for autistic children - I don't know why I didn't think to do that!

DS won't settle in holiday clubs ect so either myself or his dad take annual leave from work and do trips to farms, seaside, shopping or just pottering around the house.
I blooming love the school holidays as DS is at his best without school :)

Oh Stronge, I'm so envious. I wish I could do the same, but I only get 5 weeks holiday a year & the DCs get flipping loads. I even had a major op (which I did need) last summer just so I could be at home for 6 weeks post op & the DCs could stay at home & not have to be shunted off to activity places.

Would any of the LSA from his school want a nanny job with you over the holidays?

Our county council (Hants) has a service called Gateway which coordinates activities for children with SNs, perhaps look and see if yours has anything similar?

What area of just outside London? If south west / Surrey have yiu looked at disability challengers?

Barnardos and Mencap run holiday clubs that a lot of ASD kids go to round here (Kent).
