The school my dd is in is rubbish when it comes to supporting kids with ASD. It is a special school which was named by the Lea in august last year. They named it as they have no suitable provision for children with ASD with average/above average IQ who are unable to access mainstream. We didn't go tho tribunal at the time as my mum was gravely ill (she's better now). All my concerns about the placement have proven to be true and now dad's anxiety is at an all time high. She now has full time 1 to 1 support and is withdrawn from a couple of lessons that she was struggling with (she was struggling due to teaching methods and lack of asd understanding)for them to be delivered by the ta in the quiet room. School say they can make it work and apologized for assuming that dd would just fit in with the school as that's what other kids with ASD normally do so they need to try harder to make school fit in with dd Shock!

The school is cluttered and full of stuff everywhere (including stuffed animals) which is one of the many things dd is complaining about. She has sensory processing difficulties in all areas and it states in her statement that she is to be taught in a small group within a lower arousal environment. The school say they are not a lower arousal environment and will never be so they can't provide it. They can only offer withdrawal to the quiet room (which is small) with her TA. I want move her to an independent school that can meet all her needs and I'm wondering if anyone could offer some advice.

Am I better off applying for an emergency review or applying for a reasessment? Thanks in advance TA

Emergency review is the better option. You can then go to the tribunal and challenge the entire statement. If you apply for reassessment, it will take at best 6 months before you have an amended statement that you can challenge through the tribunal, and it could be even longer if they refuse to reassess.

Thanks Veritate. I wasn't sure due to the needing to change the school type.
