Hi Everyone :)

Just thought I'd pop by, because its been ages, since I've been on here. I suppose that is good news - either because I'm adjusting to things better or because real life has taken over :)

Little ds2 is now 2 1/2 years old. He is doing four sessions of nursery a week - 2 at the mainstream nursery with 1-1 support funded by us and 2 afternoon sessions at a mainstream/special needs nursery (which is excellent) and which is funded. I have decided to transfer him fully to the mainstream/special needs nursery in September as they use Makaton and have regular visits from various professionals including speech and language.

I have just received an envelope of stuff re-statementing - looks like its going to be as harrowing as filling in a DLA form!

For those that remember me, how are all you all?

Merlot x

Helloooo Merlot! :o

It sounds like things are going well for you, apart from the statementing stuff of course.

How dare you go off and discover real life??! :o

Blimey Merlot, that's really spooky- I was just thinking about you and here you are! That's great about the nursery (boo about the re-statementing though). Hope you are all well :)

Hi Merlot, lovely to hear from you and that things are going well. Will you have any problem with getting the full m/s nursery in Sept? Presumably the Statement is for the support and access to therapies? If they are happy for him to go, then the Statementing shouldn't be too bad (ho ho). A good and supportive EP certainly helps. I'd have thought you'd just be writing your Parents' Input???? Maybe I'm gittin naive in me old age.

Welcome to mumsnet and the SN board, Smurfet. :)

I haven't been through the statementing process (yet?) but 6 months seems to be about the average wait.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 28/04/2006 11:28

merlot,

IPSEA are helpful re the statementing process, particularly if you run into difficulties re the LEA or the wording of the Statement issued.

smurfet,

26 weeks is about average for such a document to be issued (and that is if you agree with the content of the statement). Would again recommend IPSEA if you encounter problems. Do try to get Speech therapy into Part 2.

Hi everyone. Nice catching up with you.

Davros - you were right. It is just the parents input form that I need to do and isnt anywhere near as difficult to do as it first looked. It was all the leaflets that fell out of the envelope that put me off - about how to appeal, and appointing an independent representative etc.. made it all appear a lot worse iykwim! :)

And..yes, it shouldnt be a problem increasing the hours at the SN nursery as ds2 is there on assessment for a statement. Have to say, I think we are fairly well provided for in this area. Thanks for all your advice to Meerkat.

hello merlot

Very spooky as I was thinking about you too the other day. My dd is about to start the local SN nursery too, time seems to fly doesn't it? Hope you'll still pop in from time to time, even if RL is taking over :)

heartinthecountry · 01/05/2006 22:41

Hi Merlot Smile - was thinking about you the other day too.

How are you feeling now about all the genetics stuff with your ds2?

merlot · 02/05/2006 17:26

Hi Ladies :)

Chonky - Nice to hear from you - I hope your dd settles in well at the nursery.

HITC - how are you and your dd. have you had your baby yet? :) I've completely lost track of time. To some degree we've reached a temporary state of equilibrium over the genetic stuff - I am still waiting for the definitive test results to find out exactly what is duplicated etc.. and when we have that follow up appt I am going to ask some pretty straight questions about why stuff wasnt discovered antenatally.

However, on a positive note, having a dx has made things like getting ds2 a place at the SN nursery a little easier.
