Re-educate the educators

The Cure the NHS campaign has had success, I wonder if a campaign to fix the disparity between the rhetoric of the SEN system and the reality experienced by our children could have any prospect of bringing the two closer together?

Perhaps, but I don't know how really.

The corruption is so embedded.

For example, LA's fund schools what they need to pretend every child is receiving the 1:1 allocated by their statement, - enough to perpetuate a myth, but they absolutely don't expect schools to do that.

I absolutely agree about one to one support and was hoping that direct payments may assist but there seems to be no intention to really empower parents to employ their own TA, does anyone have experience to the contrary?

There is huge disparity - every child matters?!

The best educators I have experienced do not 'score' well whereas the worst have been competent form fillers.

There is an enormous difference between what happens in the classroom on a daily basis and the written record.

Do not imagine that proposed changes will improve things.

I agree entirely and am not expecting improvement keep on but will be very pleased if I am wrong

I would like to make sure that the people who fail our children and know that they are failing our children are held accountable.

I would like a proper complaints procedure which takes parents seriously and acts on their concerns.

I know this is probably far too much to ask but I just thought I would mention it.

So maybe teach the teachers how to listen or put the care into LA customer care teams? Or maybe Ronseal the council ....... so it does what it says on the tin?

Whilst schools interpret children with statements as having parents with sharp elbows, rather than needs, there will be no guilt at using the allocated TA to support them for the benefit of ALL the children in the classroom, instead of the one, who they have been trained to believe is not as capable as his/her parents think they are.

Our experiences mirror your post above. My elbows used to be pretty blunt but now alas so often are they sharpened I have to wrap them at night so I don't cause injury as I sleep!
