I'm a very regular poster here with a NC atm and NC isn't of the MI5 type
DD is increasingly unable to hear. I had concerns from early Sept. I got the HV to refer her in Oct, she had a hearing test end Nov. Audiologist said she was worthy of a referral straight to ENT. Early Dec, went to GP, who agreed to refer.
Mid Jan, receive a letter telling me to make appointment with GP about referral. Did so. It took a couple of weeks. GP said some referral triage people had sent the referral back to him to ask if he is sure as the 'usual' process is for active management for 3 months, which turns out to be 'waiting and seeing'
Anyway, GP said he was sure, and after a pointless appointment where we just clarified that the GP was being asked if he was sure, he wrote back.
So, early Feb, I get a letter telling me that dd should receive an appointment letter in the next 4 weeks, so, March - roughly, is when we will find out when the appointment will BE.
In the meantime, dd's hearing has deteriorated to the extent that I have to shout, and I don't mean shout but SHOUT at the top of my voice. On top of that she is now refusing to go to school. She says she can't hear what to do and the other children aren't playing with her because she can't hear their games. She is clearly distressed in the mornings, and although I CAN force a 4yr old to go to nursery, by handing her over crying, I don't feel that it is fair on her.
Once she has an ENT appointment, I expect there will be another wait for grommets, a max of 18 weeks according to the NHS guidelines.
Is this all just tough shit? Or is there something I can do? Can I get her hearing aids in the interim, and if so how?
Do I accept that the provision is shit for NT children as well as disabled and commission private services with gritted teeth and by making further sacrafices to the family?
Sorry for the long post. I feel that the triage thing is bloody stupid and a way of shortening waiting lists by sending back perfectly good referrals to set the clock again.
