Exclusion for a statemented child

As some of you are aware ds was excluded last week. Should he be excluded if his behaviour and reaction is down to his SEN. His exclusion letter states if you think 'the exclusion relates to a disability that your child has you have the right to appeal'. Is this not a complete load of rubbish. His behaviour is related to his SEN, so should they exclude in the first place and should he be in mainstream school then? larsxx

Hi lars,

sorry your going through a tough time at the mo.

First and foremost, i do not agree that they have excluded your ds, as you have mentioned to me in the past his behaviour problems are very much linked to SN.

Should the school have taken this on board properly, they would have handled the situation better.

And one main point is that if your ds is attending a mainstream school, then surely they should maintain clear boundries for the fact that it is meant to be better for him to attend MS and fit in, now they have backtracked on the initial plan for inclusion in MS schools for childrem with SN!!!!

Fully agree that Cars post was excellent

Where I work when children with SEN are exclueded there is always a section in the exclusion letter that states ' If you feel that your child has been excluded because of their SEN then you should contact.....' and them contact details are given. It is taken seriously.

We do exclude childrenn with SEN, sometimes for excellent H and S reasons. Sometimes because all children (SEN included) can be naughty....sometimes the exclusion isnot linked to the childre SEN IYSWIM.
