If we apply for dc to change schools to a ms with a specialist base will county provide transport?

We're not in catchment. We do have a statement.

will depend if the LA class it as nearest suitable school - if there is a school closer that is more suitable then they would name and provide transport to that - if the other school is further they could say its parental choice. it really depends on your LA and how supportive they are about the move.

i do not get transport for my son as he is in a special school in the next county.LA wanted to name a mainstream school which would never have been suitable so they agreed my choice but refused transport

There is a closer SS, but they would require outreach to provide the specialism dc needs.

Current named ms can't provide specialism.

Hmm Anyone know how we can sway county? Would we need professional back-up that sounds like I'm rounding up a hit squad.

You need to show that the special school they will suggest cannot meet your child's needs in contrast to the school you propose that will. Independent reports EP, SALT etc. can be useful here.

My daughter attends a non-maintained special school in neighbouring LEA and she receives transport.

Son is deafblind CP Epilepsy. I looked at nearest SS 5 miles away. Despite being a lovely school they had no MSI staff which he really needed. I looked at a school 25 miles away and felt it would meet his sensory needs. I contacted the LEA and they agreed with me......I was staggered I had expected a fight. So he got transport Grin. The only professional support we had was SENSE
I wish it was all that simple!!
Good luck
