not on the original, you understand, that is 2186 words! This is written for the Paed in preparation for the review (awaiting assssment for ASD). It is bullet pointed where possible and sub-headed under things like:

unable to see others' point of view
aversion to novel/different things
rules and routine/inflexibility
literal understanding of words
conversational
social
non verbal
friendships
academic
mood
extreme meltdowns
sensory issues

I have composed this summary over the last 6 weeks or so and feel it is long but gives an incredibly good insight about dd2 and so much better than the standard Conners/SCQ blah blah blah. DH is on the same page as me as regards dd2 although we are both at a loss as to what to do.

Should I

a) take it with me on the day or:
b) send it in advance for her to read before she sees us (which has the added advantage of me not having to sit in front of dd2 listing why she is so blinking difficult [hmmm])?

Even though she has been the one to suggest ASD in dd2 I am petrified she will get annoyed if I send in advance as though I am trying to tell her how to do her job ie self-diagnose dd2 which obviously I am not well actually ok I am

what do you think?

a and b.

Just say that you find appointments difficult and want to make sure you don't forget anything on the day that could be important.

I sent similar to my paed ahead of our first appointment... she wasn't offended in fact she thanked me.

Do take a copy with you as well.

DD2's Paed (can I call him that when he's only seen her once so far and doesn't know what her issues are? Confused) thanked me for bringing a thesis summary of our concerns. He said he's much happier when people 'put their cards on the table' rather than being too subtle.

My GP asked me to prepare something for her to send to the Paed with the referral. She sent him a copy and I took a couple with us to the first appointment as well.

The paed thanked us for providing it, used it as a step by step basis for our discussion and said it helped him to make the right referral to the right assessment team.

Ah, thanks everyone, I am more confident now about sending it ahead of the appt. This is not a first appt., this is a review (the referral has been made but MDT assessment is still a very, very, long way off indeed).

Because educationally dd2 is now needing quite a lot of help with her literacy I want the nature of her difficulties to be clarified for everybody involved (school, for example, have never seen her 'lose it' like she does at home). This includes our SaLT who I would like to re-engage to help dd2's social communication and reading comprehension.

I want the Paed to make a presumptive diagnosis as I'm sick of faffing about with endless bland questionnaires and 'waiting and seeing'. To this end I want to send something which gives a picture of our life and the ways we support dd2, the sorts of verbal and non verbal responses and their triggers.

Hopefully this will thesis summary will help things along. Hopefully.
