had an appointment with a parent and family worker that camhs referred us to and the lady mentioned that she had been seeing another mum with a similar sounding problem with her son of the same age . i said it would be nice to talk to someone in the same boat and the lady said she would mention it to this other mum .
the other mum apparently is happy for me to contact her and i now have her number but being the shy numpty i am i dont know what to say now and feel a bit daft ringing a complete stranger !!

Go on... take that leap of faith.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain and remember she's in the same situation as you and probably feels exactly the same.

I get friends of friends of friends calling me quite a bit. It's nice. I sometimes wonder what they want or if there is something they are hoping I will do for them, but usually they don't want anything. We have a nice chat. It's nice to talk to someone who has similar challenges that still appears to be quite normal. It's reassuring and perspective-giving.

I'd have gone totally bat s&(t crazy by now if not for having met a couple of local SN Mums. Knowing your experiences aren't completely unique can make all the difference.

Do it - as it gives you that crucial bit of mental insulation on those days when the whole world appears to be tutting at you and 8 hours sleep seems like an impossible dream.

Honking

Yes just suggest meeting for a coffee somewhere convenient. Of course you might not hit it off but you might find as I did that it is fantastic to talk about how things really are without being embarrassed or having to explain everything. (Or be sympathetic about ingrown toenails when you have bigger fish to fry!)

I would love to have someone to 'chat' too, instead of my social life being tied in a computer. Ring me 1st for a trial run Grin

if it helps, I too am a daft bugger, all the emails I sent last night and now hoping something comes of it but leaves me out haha

ouryve · 30/01/2013 10:41

I'm just as daft. I often wish I had someone to talk to, but then I find talking and even the thought of talking so exhausting.

Ineedmorepatience · 30/01/2013 12:14

If its a mobile number, I would text first. So much easier, or home at a daft time like school run time and leave a message.

Gosh the lengths I would go to to avoid phone conversations Blush
