Hi Sue

Take deep breaths and calm yourself!!. Write down anything you want answering before you get in there. Take notes.

Was wondering why are you having to take this action with the school?.

You will be okay; nothing lasts forever. If still panicky imagine them sitting on the loo!!.

Good luck today

Good luck suedenley, hope you get a good result.

Peachyclair · 24/04/2006 14:00

You'll be OK I'm sure. I also start 'shock and awe' on the aschool today so know how you feel. Similar thing, school doesn't want to sccept ds's AS

Good luck to you, hope you get what you need out of them!

suedenley · 24/04/2006 14:24

im ready to take them on the biggest problem is that one of his teachers is a huge problem she discribes my ds as obnoxious and rude she is going to be at the meeting and im scared i will loose my temper with her which in turn will mean i lose the whole thing i am usually pretty calm but her horrendous attitude is going to rile me the last conversation i had with her she told me that if i were to leave my son to them and seek support for myself i would be making a better use of my time isnt that unreal good luck to you too peachyclair

Sue

How did you get on today?.

One question for you - does your son have a Statement in place?.

I hope you managed to establish fully whether this teacher alone is as fault or whether this behaviour towards your son represents the whole attitude of the school. If the whole school is like this then you may well have to consider removing your son as they will not readily support him.

Did you also know that twenty percent of all special needs children get excluded permanantly?.

Would also speak to IPSEA in this regard too; they may be able to offer help.

'she discribes my ds as obnoxious and rude'

leave your son to someone like that- Good God, no way!!! What a terrible way for a Teacher to describe any kid!

I hope you got somewhere with the meeting. The links Meerskat sent are good, you could also try BIBIC- as wella s offering support to you and your son, they're running a specific campaign right now on kids that are labelled bad when in fact they jave SN. \link{http://www.bibic.org.uk/newsite/general/campaigns.htm\here}. I believe (perhaps wrong) they were at the Welsh Assemblyr ecently, so they should know what they're talking about.

For example, did you know that an ASD kid was given an ASBO for staring? seriously. beggars belief, doesn't it?

BIBIC are my main source of sanity with Sam right now, in fact they're going into school to visit them and tell then what Sam really needs. yay.

I'm not as brave as you btw, I can't do meetings (I certainly haev AS traits, whether I ahbve AS is a matter for others but I can't see the point of the stress) so I delivered a letter to them outlining my concerns at pick up time. Will see what happens tomorrow. But to 'pressurize' them, have copied to PAediatrics.

suedenley · 24/04/2006 18:45

it went pretty well thankyou. I applied for a statement but they said to call in the autism team see if they can help improve things for ds if there is no improvement by october then the next option is a statement so im looking forward to may when cids have assessed ds then will know more. Its mainly the one teacher but there is room for improvement all round. I donateda copy of freaks geks and asperger syndrome to the staff room so hopefully some of the staff will make use of that. I took ds key worker with me and they were much more interested in my views today funny that but do think i got somewhere today and hopefully ds ilfe at school will improve if not i will take him out cos there will be no other option.

thanks peachyclair. i feel a little flat right now put so much energy into this meeting preparing reading everything i could get my hands on talking to people and trying to get it all in an order i imagined all the answers they could give so i had answers to those that now im in limbo waiting to see if they actually do what they say they will so will keep you up to date
hope it all works out for you and sam its always better to have proffessionals backing you even though there is only one expert in our children and thats the parent im coming to terms with that one it makes me braver
