He bangs his high chair table, and she spins his toy. He squeals in delight.

Hmm Grin

She's also taught him to generalise his 'more' sign to things other than food.

She's for hire by the way.........

So ABA would be saying...the spinning is more fun, try that...rather than STOP BANGING or WE DON'T BANG TABLES IT IS NOISY.

I suspect most children are far better at engaging with children than adults are Grin. Is is instinct that we grow out of?

LOL - NO. He's learned that if he bangs the table, she spins his toy. So he's banging away like crazy and kicking his leggs and the pair of them are giggling and causing a right scene.
