Shoes wide enough to accommodate foot plate + insoles

We have got some foot plates to go in ds1 shoes to see if that could help reduce toe walking, the trouble is that I cannot find shoes wide enough to accommodate the foot plate as well as the padded insole.

He is a toddler 7.5 so the range available is still quite limited to us. Can anybody recommend types of shoes which can fit both the foot plate and the insole and still have room for his poor toes. Thanks.Smile

My dd wears splints(afos's) so we have some experience of trying to find footwear to accommodate more than feet.
Generally cheap trainers are the best in particular we found that slazenger and asda brand are wider at the front than some of the other brands.
The insole that is already in the shoe-can you remove it as the insole that you have specifically provided for your child should be enough to do that job...
I would go 'shoe shopping' by myself in the morning with the Afos and draw up a short list of options and then explain to shop staff (generally 2 or 3 different shops too) and would then return an hour or two later with my child to do a fitting, saves the hassle for the child of looking at shoes that are not appropriate and them being upset.
If all else fails on occasion when we really couldn't get footwear we had to use specialist footwear provided by orthotics or even worse purchase our own from specialist providers and pray said child didn't have a growth spurt( as footwear was ridiculously expensive)
Good luck x

for just orthotics we used a mixture of Clarkes startrite and held other things worth looking at are sketchers and kickers boots

Thanks Chatee and katcatkat I guess I have been looking at the wrong places. The foot plates are carbon fibre so I need to have the padded insole as well hence the need for a wide shoe.

I will have a look at the brands you both mentioned. many thanks.

These are £99 each, but would probably work for you? www.tomcatspecialneeds.co.uk/tomcat-twisters
