exclusions

So ds2 who hates everything about school (work, teachers, other children) has been excluded for the second time. He has finally got what he wanted so is not surprisingly quite happy about this. dh is adamantly against home schooling so how can we possibly move on from this? We have been told by masses of professionals that ds2 and his twin brother are likely HFA. He is due back to school next week but as he now knows what to do to be sent home I am not expecting it to be very long before school phones.

Does he have a statement in place?. How old is DS?. How long is this second exclusion?

IPSEA have good information on their website re exclusions for children with and without statements www.ipsea.org.uk.

No advice but did want to read and not say anything. Contacting IPSea is very good advice. I have twins as well although my daughter is fine her twin is hfa - also have an older son with autism as well so understand the stress.

No statement as doing very well academically despite hating work. He has a three day exclusion this time. I have looked up IPSEA. The exclusions are justifiable given his behaviour & to be honest reading the stuff on here we are lucky he is not on a permanent exclusion by now.

How old is he? If he is at risk of permanent exclusion statementing really should be thought about. My younger son is academically able but has a statement for 32 5 hours - we have I suppose an unofficial exclusion in the fact he is part time but that's another story!

Thanks for your responses bjkmummy. He is 10. What sort of help is written into your sons statement? It is social stuff that the ds's struggle with most especially group work and playtimes. ds2 also has quite a lot of anxiety.

oneineight I know that some people have tried and failed to get a statement for HFA.
But DS does have one (AS). It covers social skills, group work, OT help for sensory and for handwriting and postural problems, help with organisational skills and help to break down large open ended pieces of work into understandable chunks for him. We also highlighted the H&S aspect of him hitting out if he went into meltdown at school ( they have seen it happen) and from him running away and hiding after sensory overload.

The exclusion might be justified on behavioral grounds but have the school considered his disabilities when excluding. You dont need formal diagnosis.
