DD asd came to playgroup with me for one hour yesturday she is starting there tuesday for 2 hours as part of her assessment. She has a one to one support worker abd she enjoyed playing and they have a sensory room she loved she didnt interact with anyone but was happy so I was happy with the idea of leaving her there next week.

However when we got home she was stressed and in a funny mood but later on in the evening she just sat there crying silently I had to bundle her up and take her to a dark quiet room for a hour and rock her till she calmed down. She was obviosly over stimulated my question is will this get easier for her? she is going two days a week for 2 hours how long should I give her to see if she adjusts?

I would monitor on a session by session basis.

Record her mood on a scale when she gets home and do it at the same time on non-session days. keep a diary of behaviours every evening.

Yes to monitoring, but also, significantly to RECORDING.

This needs to be done for future services and negotiations. What happens if school start saying she is fine, and withdraw support on that basis when she is just about holding it together there but falling apart at home?

Any mention of this by you will have them saying that it is obviously a home thing and you'll be offered a parenting course.

However, if you have the detailed log that shows your parenting only needs support on the days she has school sessions, it cannot be denied that school has something significant to do with it.

It's a precaution, but a really important one to take.
