Hi, as the title says I need help, the LA that I work in dont seem to be very forthcoming with this funding but I know it is available in other areas.

I have decided to write to the Chief Education Officer to fight for it.

I thought it would be good if I could quote some LA's that are putting additional funding in place for preschoolers on EYA+.

If you wouldnt mind pming me with some names of LA's that would be sooo helpful.

Thanks in advance Smile

Hampshire. DD1 started preschool in June 2008, attended for 6 weeks until Summer break. 2 weeks into the Autumn Term, preschool asked for permission to get her observed as she was a little bit behind and they wanted to 'give her some more attention during free play.'

The following week, the Inclusion Officer came to observe her, decided she needed 1:1 for all her time there. She told the preschool to give her 1:1 and she'd arrange for funding to be back-dated to that date, although the funding would take 4-5 weeks to be authorised.

The LA wrote to me stating that they would give funding of £8.50 per 2½ session attended, up to 5 sessions per week for 'support or resources', guaranteed until she started school.

She had no diagnosis, no statement, nothing.

She then fell over for no reason, ended up in hospital, was dx with epilepsy, brain malformation, global development delay and (after some time) Moderate Learning Difficulties - she's in Special School now.

Devon. No diagnosis other than global development delay,1:1 for preschool in place. Applying for statement now,& we have been told the same 1:1 will stay in place for as long as he attends the school.

Herts, believe it or not, put in 80%.

TBH I suspect yours does too, they just say they don't.

It's the law to make education/work etc. accessible for all right. Preschools are legally obliged to do this. They are funded by the LA.

I doubt ds would have got the funding he did had we not been waving the ABA flag though.

Ineedmorepatience · 10/01/2013 18:25

Thanks starlight, that is what I believe too but we keep getting fobbed off which is why I have decided to go to the CEO direct.

Just to add that both these children get 3 yr old funding.

another one. Gives 75% 1:1 (of free 15 hours) + 75% (IF3 funding) for another 15 hours for working parents (term time only though). For 100% funding need a statement.

proudmum74 · 10/01/2013 18:33

Watching with interest - DD (almost 3) had a temporary 1-1 inclusion grant at nursery (from neighbouring LA). Had meeting with our LA today to finalise her statement and told no funding until school age, but will have a statement stating full time 1-1.

Ineedmorepatience · 10/01/2013 18:39

Agnes, I think we would be happy with a percentage, 75% is a lot more than we are getting now.

I wont tell them that thoughGrin

And thanksSmile

That is worse proud, to give it and then take it awaySad

I can see how much it would benefit the LO's I am working with. Well the whole setting really.

Southampton City Council are brilliant re pre-school SEN. Used to be that a limited number of approved EY settings had inclusive places but now the funding follows the child. Lucky for me our local Pre-school was one of those so had heaps of experience and a proactive relationship with Ed Psychs and EY panel for referring kids to get inclusive places if needed.

SilkStalkings · 10/01/2013 21:19

Also both my boys got inclusive places without statements or diagnoses.

MummytoMog · 11/01/2013 09:12

DD is 3.4 and has some 1:1 at her nursery - no diagnosis, but severe speech delay. Redbridge.

Ineedmorepatience · 11/01/2013 13:42

Thankyou, silk and mummy

lougle found me a document relating to my LA which explains how the funding or lack of it works.

It is pretty wooly and doesnt mention the kind of setting that I work in so I am going to write my letter at the weekend and quote all the LA's which are providing funding for 1 2 1's and ask the question.

Thankyou all for your helpSmile

A Southampton Inclusive place is 15hours.

sannaville · 12/01/2013 09:15

When my dd started preschool she went in on early years action plus. They said they would have funding arranged should she need extra support. Funding all in place and they're leaving it there til easter to fund extra assistant for the room.in general as she doesn't require a 1.1 but she does take up a lot of teachers time. We got it no probs we are in Devon
