What happens next? 7 year old DD with ADHD - in Scotland, if that makes a difference

DD is nearly 8 (April birthday). I've had concerns since she was at playgroup at 2 1/2 and have worked with the school since then, with support worker involvement until we finally pushed for GP referral to CAMHS. She was first seen at CAMHS early November. She was assigned a Mental Health Worker, who I have seen twice, once with DD. I have another solo appointment with MHW on 18th Jan, then she says after that we will be going back to CAMHS for diganosis. She's confident enough to say that DD has ADHD ("off the charts"), and she is also "off the top of the chart" for ASD, but wants to treat the ADHD first to see if it relieves some of the ASD symptoms. I've been told to start thinking about medication.

I know I should (and will) ask MHW what happens next when I see her on the 18th, but just wondered if anyone can give me a heads up as to what usually happens next?

I was expecting all sorts of appointments with paediatrician, OT etc before diagnosis, so a bit surprised at how fast it all seems to be happening now.

Ye-ah, I'm a bit Hmm at that as a dx process and I'm also Scotland. It was my understanding that a MHW can't dx. Now, she might have seen enough cases and your DS may be very clear-cut, but still she can't provide an official dx. However I could be wrong as we haven't encountered CAMHS.

I'd be going straight to your GP to ask for a referral to a peadiatrician. That would kick off a 'proper' dx process, the length/type of which will vary depending how clear cut your DD is.

'I've been told to start thinking about medication' - one approach certainly but have you also been given any support with strategies that may help her? Has there been any contact with school?

Thanks for your reply Wilson
Sorry if my post was confusing, I'm kind of confused by the whole thing, and probably not coming across correctly. I'm aware that the MHW can't dx, she told me that she can't dx and we need to go back to a doctor at CAMHS for dx, but that she may be present for that. Maybe I misunderstood, and she meant that she has done what she can (We were originally sent to her by the psychologist at CAHMS, who we met for a Choice Appointment, for 'help with self esteem and self confidence and to be given some strategies), she met DD, carried out a Conners Questionnaire, and another couple of scales (Strengths and Difficulties, and another one that she told me was to check for autistic traits but I can't remember the name. It was Social something I think), decided she wanted to assess her for ADHD and did some flipchart test thing to check for her learning ability, and work out what academic level she was working at - which was no concern. She's maybe meaning she will refer us back to our local CAHMS to then be re-referred to someone else more specialist? Could that be possible?

Not been given any strategies at the moment to implement to help DD, no. There has been contact with the school, yes. DDs class teacher has had to fill in all the same questionnaires as I have, as well as an initial report before our first appointment, based on her academic and social ability at school. At our last appointment in December, I was asked if it was ok that MHW contacted the teacher via telephone, which I obviously agreed to, so I assume they will have spoken at least once. Her teacher is great, and actually already implements a lot of different techniques with DD than with other pupils (or implements them to the whole class as she knows they will benefit DD but not hinder the rest of the class). She's very understanding and supportive which, obviously, makes this all much easier.
