Think my son has aspergers

Hi All,
I have been on here years but never been on this section but I wonder if anyone can help.

I have two ds's 10 and 8, the eldest has always been 'different' from other children, I am increasingly wondering if it is very mild aspergers.
He is very clever, and picks things up very quickly, which is great. However, he has obsessions, which started from a young age. At the moment its with bus timetables, he memorises all the numbers, their start and end point and then wants me to test him. He cannot stand having new experiences to try, won't eat anything different, hates loud noises, smells, tastes. Any change to his routine he finds difficult, he also seems to lack any real empathy. He sees the world in a very 'black and white' way and doesn't really think if he might have upset someone

I don't know if I should have him assessed and if so by whom. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Jazzicatz, your first step would be to visit your GP and ask for a referral to a developmental paediatrician. Have school noticed anything?

Hi jazzi and welcome to the board.

It does sound like your ds has some red flags for ASD/aspergers.

I agree with lougle about the referral.

I would also suggest keeping a diary while you wait for your appointment.

Record any incedents of quirky/unusual behaviour, what causes them (if you know) and how you deal with them.

Good luckSmile
