Question about DLA form

I am filling it in with the help of the celebra and AS Teens guide. My DS aged 9 has ASD (Aspergers).

I am finding plenty of things to write but not specifically saying why it is different to a NT 9 year old. Will they realise this or do I need to spell it out?

I have just done my renewal and I occasionally referred to it being different then to a NT child but not with everything i said and my sons claim was successful x

Thanks. I will spell it out then.

I must admit, I didn't spell it out. I let the hoards of reports and paperwork I sent, speak for themselves - which was very risky. It was awarded very quick though and I do consider it a one-off and will spell everything out in detail in future.

You definitely need to spell it out - remember that the decision maker is looking for reasons not to give the award, particularly if it's your first application. So make lots of references to 'NT children of 9 are able to.....whereas my ds cannot.....' What also helps is when you have younger NT children who can do things your child with SN cannot and I use these examples.

I also would say spell it out, take it that they know nothing about your DS and you need to tell them EVERYTHING, even putting his underpants on for him if you need to.
