ASD children in the North East?

Hello,
I was just wondering whether there were any parents of children with autism who are living in the North East? It always seem to me that everyone is down southSad
If you are out there, do any of you have any experiences of good schools/autism friendly places/ABA tutors?

I'm in the north east. There are some good schools for autism/SN and a fair bit of local activity going on. Contact A Family newsletter is usually full of things to do (Teesside especially has lots happening). I used to organise activities for families with autism until about a year ago, but they weren't very well attended - it surprised me as I often come across people like you asking about such things.

I believe there are some decent mainstream schools but level of support seems to depend on the Head and SENCo and to a certain extent the LA. I don't have much knowledge on that score as I home educate my son now.

No idea about ABA tutors, I'm afraid.

Hello streaky, thanks for replying. Excuse my ignorance but I haven't heard of 'Contact a family' - should I just google search? We are based in Middlesbrough so hopefully we will find some info.
Are you able to tell me which mainstream schools (primary) are any good in terms of support? Also if I'm not being too nosey, can I ask why you are homeschooling as it is something we have considered ourselves?

My son is going through the diagnostic process. He is only 3, we are hoping to get him into a school nearby that is small and nurturing, but we probablye won't have a certificate of sen by next September unfortunately. This school has a severely autistic pupil with one on one care for him. It is really isolating, so it is good to hear of others in a similar boat.

Hello goldenretriever, our son is also 3. Unfortunately he is an August baby so is due to start school in September (he will still be so little!) but we are considering holding him back a year so that he starts school a few weeks after he turns 5. It is so difficult trying to decide whether mainstream or special school is the best optionConfused Whereabouts are you?
