successful presents thread

Presents are always difficult for my ASD DC, but I had a couple that really worked this tear . I thought a thread like this might be useful for future inspiration. In our house, the presents of the year are:

A battery tester
Key ring with measuring tape
Set of bus postcards

ThreeBoostsOneGalaxy: I googled Expandagon. I hadn't heard of it before. It looks cool.

I think 'Stranz' balls (a variation of the 'Oball', made by Rhino toys) are great too. It doesn't expand like a hoberman sphere, it's just a ball, but it squashes and crushes and pings back while it looks like it's made of silly string.

DS aged 6 ASD delayed expressive language.

Without a doubt Ipad for his birthday. They are so versatile and have stopped several meltdowns, I could go on with hundreds of reasons why to get one.

Without a doubt Abney and Teal picture books x 2 for Xmas, carries with him everywhere. It's one of his special interests.

Of course, nice to see value of present does not motivate him at all.

Well, we've had some more successes.

My sis hunted high and low and eventually chose a fire engine which opens out into a road with all sorts of twists and turns on it, and some quite well made tiny little die cast cars. He loves it, has amazed us with his ability to open and close it and has been trying to put it together, though it is quite fiddly, so can't do it by himself.

He got £30 in money from SIL and MIL. He'd been playing with his ancient hand-me-down leapster quite a lot, but the screen had dead pixels and he couldn't do anything but the colouring in, as the other onboard games were too complicated and he wouldn't keep cartridges in. He has an original leappad, but it's so ridiculously slow that he loses patience and the drawing program is pants. So we took advantage of one of the Amazon boxing day deals and got him a Leapster GS for £27. He doesn't bother with the drawing tool we've put on it, but likes making the camera count down and he's actually learnt to play one of the games - Attack of the Sillies! All he hasn't really got the hang of is shaking it in between levels to get the sillies through the portal.

Yes, it's probably only on an SN board that somoene would be so ridiculously happy that their DC can play an electronic game.

Top Trumps a hit, as always, DS1 will happily spend a long time ranking them according to various criteria. Needle felting kit as long as I do it with him. And a Geography Facts book my BIL sent him, basically a list of every country in the world with various statistics - we have been using it to play a 'guess the country' game (DS1 beats me very easily.....) and he has also started copying out the key statistics onto A4 paper. He does love a list.....
