Where's the best place (online) to buy a weighted blanket? Preferably not too expensive and with multiple design choices

My friend helped me make my own with a quilt cover and some of these pellets.

It cost a lot less than buying one.

Wow I wouldn't even know where to start? How do you make one?

I weighed the pellets and put them into little plastic bags to make it easier to tip them into the pockets.

I made one and it honestly isn't complicated at all. I haven't touched any cotton since I was at school (a long time ago!) and I found it pretty straightforward. Much much cheaper than online.

If you can sew a straight line (or have a friend who can) I really recommend trying/doing it on your own. I can share suggestions, and it can be a bit fiddly, but it REALLY isn't difficult (and worth every penny knowing that your effort, even if it isn't perfect, is directly benefiting your dc).

Plus, you have as many design options as the fabric store has fabric when you DIY...

My wife made a weighted blanket by sewing together 3 or 4 microwavable heat pads that you can buy from places like Bodycare. They are filled with beans or something similar and provide both weight and the ability to adjust to a preferred shape. The only downside is that they are often scented which might be a problem for some asd noses!

Ahh screw it I have picked out some lovely fabric, mattress protectors, those special things that weight it out and will buy a sewing machine!! Will be so much cheaper there asking for £115 online!Shock

I have made my ds's. Also made his weighted lap blanket. Very easy.

lisad123 · 24/12/2012 23:34

Hints I would say, from making a few is use double stitch, cotton double layer and weight should be 10% of your child's body weight.
I will link instructions later
