Ds when "when its raining it makes me feel sick"

My Ds has mentioned before while walking to school on a rainy day how much he doesn't like it, and to be truthful I never used to like getting wet on the way to school when younger infact can still remember that horrid feeling of wet tights and shoes, and being sat in a freezing classroom shhuudddeeerrrr Grin. I can't seem to forget the comment he made this morning. Can I please ask does anyone elses Dc feel sick because of the rain?????????????? or do you think it may possibly be because he has to stay in at break? Ds seemed to avoid any conversation initiated after he made this comment so not sure why this may be.

It could be lots of things, including the possibility of him being unhappy at having to stay in at break, but the fact he says it makes him feel sick suggests that it could be sensory. Perhaps the sound of the raindrops or the splashing of cars going through puddles, as you said the horrible feeling of wet skin or wet clothes against skin.

My ds is 10 and has AS, so he is now able to explain things a little better to me, which makes things a bit easier. He told me this week that it makes the skin under his nails itch if he doesn't put his book or DSi down squarely or if someone moves it so that it's skewiff on the shelf.

I would guess that it makes him feel anxious perhaps at the thought of having to stay in and this anxiety manifests itself as feeling sick?

DS2 doesn't like to be outside when it's raining or snowing. Or even very breezy. I think it's a sensory thing tbh. He can also be quite on edge when it's heavy rain or very windy - again, I think the noise upsets him. He also doesn't like snow or rain or wind on his face, ears, or head.

DS doesn't like it but only because the floors wet, school have told him not to run as the floor was wet(inside) all winter that now if it's raining he's convinced he will fall.

Don't know if this helps shed any light on your DS's experiences, but my DS 4 yrs old (un-dx AS) has much more frequent and intense meltdowns when it's raining. Also, if the forecast is rain, I often warn him (brings a whole range of issues, such as rain drops on his head, having to actually wear his coat, having to wear shoes rather than sandals, no visible sunrise, etc) and if the forecast is wrong, and there's no rain, or if it comes in the afternoon rather than the morning... cue major meltdown!

Just love this predictable British climate! drowns in sarcasm

ds is 8 and has anxiety about rain. It is mainly centred around the fear of floods. I think it is quite common tbh we were at a soft play centre, he was having meltdowns because the rain was so loud. Two different parents approached me as their children had similar difficulties with rain/weather.

Maybe the different smells when everything is wet? (I remember when I went to school we had woollen blazers that ended up smelling like wet dogs)

My DD is 11 and is absolutely petrefied of the rain. She is (un dx) ASD and I believe it's a sensory thing. For DD it's the noise, but it could be the feel too.

Thanks for the replies, I initially thought sensory issues but TBH I can find him quite confusing at times, Ds doesn't like cold frosty days especially if there is a cold wind I see big changes in him around these times yet he can quite happily play in the snow on a cold "great british" winter day Confused (but saying that I remember a couple of years ago having a snowball fight with him and some snow accidently went down his back which was not good he had a major meltdown I believe he even threatened me with his dad which has only ever happened that one time, took a long time to calm down from that and still refers to it to this day). Sound wise I'm not sure Hmm he reacts badly to loud, sudden noises but then can also do the same if everything is quiet and there is a really small sound. It was really fine rain but I can't say he has ever complained about the rain itself just that he doesn't like it for one reason or another (which isn't actually the rain itself IYSWIM). I was called later yesterday to collect him (which I didn't, don't ask looong story!) because he felt sick...which was closely followed by its the class party so knowing Ds as I do they were probably playing games (which Ds really doesn't like) and he did later confirm this when I collected him and he was absolutly fine. So now I'm wondering if it is the staying in? being stuck in the classroom with lots of excited children making lots of noise while playing? Just thought maybe it was the party?? and as mentioned above the anxiety of knowing that is what was making him feel sick......a mystery....a complete mystery...oh to step inside his wonderful mind. Hmm

Ds1 is a strange one he hates the feeling of rain dropping on him but dosnt mind the feeling of being wet, he is happy to stand in a puddle then spend the day at school in socking wet socks! he hates wind though even now at nearly 7 it catches his breath i always thought that was a child thing but ds2 is only 1 and it dosnt happen to him Hmm
