ABA Costs

Hello all

Looking to gain inputs from people currently running an ABA program -

  1. How much to pay for tutors with 1+, 2+ or 3+ years experience?
  1. How many tutors to recruit for a good program - child has very mild symptoms, needing to work more on conversation, social interaction and abstract thinking?
  1. Is having a lead tutor a must?

Big thanks to all :-)

Hi!

We stopped ours last year because we ran out of money, but we were paying one tutor (recent Psychology graduate, no previous experience) £12/hr, and one (about 5 years experience) £20/hr. The supervisor we were allocated by PEACH charged about £90/hr but it was only 3-4 hrs every 6 weeks. The others shared a total of 12 hours a week (2 boys, 2 hrs, 3 times a week). That worked out as an average of over £200/week for the programme but if you only have one then it would be half that.

They are, however, doing very well at a mainstream school and are reasonably sociable (they are still on the spectrum but have a proactive school and understanding friends!). We now have time for play dates and clubs which help a lot, and more time for homework so they're doing well academically.

I have met someone else who got by with just an experienced tutor and no supervisor and said this met their needs, and have heard of others who have just had a good supervisor and tutored completely themselves, so I don't think you have to stick to the formula if another way suits you better.

Good luck with whatever you decide :)
