Statement success story

I just wanted to share my statement story to give others some hope.
If it hadn't been for the expertise I found here I would have never have known what to do.

We started this process 11 months ago when I requested an assessment for my then 22 month old DS2 who has a rare genetic syndrome. He had started attending a (very poor) children's centre at 18 months so we had some evidence of his SN from observations and IEP's.

We received a weak Statement of SEN and no mention of 1:1 support, which was what we wanted, and many of his assessments said he needed.

Our LEA told us that no child in our authority had 1:1 written on their statement (lie!).

I used IPSEA a lot and realised I had absolutely nothing to lose by going down the tribunal route. We recently had to submit our parental response where I named my witnesses and representative (handily new nursery manager agreed).

Suddenly this week I received a new final amended statement which has absolutely everything in it that I asked for (SaLT, OT, physio) and .....1:1!!

What a shock! Even IPSEA were surprised.
Just want to give others some hope x

Very well done Hellen for striving so hard to obtain the support that your DS will benefit from in the future. Excellent news.

Best wishes
