So, we got through to Statutory Assessment, and Panel met last Wed and discussed DD but we're away over Christmas and so I wanted to know the result without having to wait for the post! I emailed and just had the following reply...

Fantastic news Galena- now don't forget to come back here when you receive the proposed statement so that we can rip it to shreds help ensure that it is written correctly and specified for your dd, so that it means that it is worth the paper it is wrote on.
Go away and have a wonderful time at Christmas and enjoy being a family- not having to fight for services that should be provided and access given to you easily by professionals.

Galena · 17/12/2012 20:59

Yep, I'll do that! Apparently I should receive the proposed statement by Dec 25th!

I'd suggest not reading it until Dec 27th! Nothing you can do in the meantime and you don't want to be thinking about the woolly, weasely words over Christmas. 15 hours is good, though! As an initial statement in our LA. They usually go for 11 and you have to argue to build it up. Well done. Xmas Grin

Galena · 18/12/2012 14:33

I won't read it till January, in fact - won't be home till then... but yes, I was pleasantly shocked to receive her reply!

I'm back! I shall start a new thread as I have just received the statement and need to return it within 15 days (which means while we're away...)

OP posts:
EllenJaneisstillnotmyname · 19/12/2012 17:31

That'll be 15 school days, though, won't it?

Galena · 19/12/2012 18:19

I don't know... Everything just says 'within 15 days of receiving this letter'

Off to check the sencop!

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname · 19/12/2012 20:42

Well, that didn't help! I'm sure someone has mentioned school days, rather than working days, but I can't find the reference.

Galena · 19/12/2012 20:54

I don't think it can be - the SENCOP says:
(a) they may within 15 days make representations to the LEA, and require that a meeting be arranged with an officer of the LEA to discuss the contents of the statement
(b) within 15 days of meeting the officer, the parents may make further representations or, if they disagree with any part of the assessment, require further meetings to be arranged with appropriate people within the LEA to discuss the advice given
(c) within a final 15 days from the last meeting the parents can make further comments to the LEA

And the final statement needs to be issued within 8 weeks (56 days)

Now 3x15 days is 45 days, leaving 11 days for finalising statement. If it were school days, it would be 3x3 weeks, making 9 weeks and the final statement would be overdue, IYSWIM?

So I think it must be 15 days. I will email the woman though and see what they say... We are going away tomorrow and so if the draft statement arrived tomorrow I wouldn't see it for 2.5 weeks which is 17 days...
