That's it really. Obviously can't say the name of the child, but what are the general principles re names. Don't want to spend more money, and have just got the makaton core vocabulary pocket book to see how it pans out.

TIA Smile

Hi, You just sign the first letter of their name. Hopefully the Makaton core vocab book has the signed alphabet in it to help.

Sometimes, people add a sort of 'signature' sign if there are lots of members of a class or family with names starting with the same name, but that can be anything you like e.g. sign 'M' then glasses for a girl called Mary who wears glasses or 'M' then sign curly hair for Matilda with curly hair.

Mainly though the letter is enough.

I've seen the initial letter, mainly. Sometimes repeated depending on how many syllables there are in the name. Eg Peter may be P P.

Thanks I have seen the physio at hydro say hello and to a hand thing, presumably a makaton name. The little book I've got does letters at the end so will look it up. Many thanks

Thanks

We just used the initial for dd2. That's what they used for all of the children at the comms group.

For mummy we used mm, for daddy dd, for grandma GM, for grandad gd etc.

My brother uses makaton. We use his initial and the sign for a car (which he loves).

The great thing about makaton s that it's flexible, to allow users to make up they're own signs (as opposed to bsl).

I speak fluent . But I'm sure very few people not related to us would "get it".
