Is he just sensative or should I be worried?

My 3 year old has started to show etreme anxiety in certain situations, does not like noise if he can't identify it particularly background noise (like the fridges in the supermarket) and seems very sensative to smell. He has had delayed speech, was a silent baby & although speaking now is still very quiet & tends to be withdrawn. He constantly seeks re assurance constantly asking where are we going why we are gong down certain roads & who people are. Other than these constant questions to reassure him very little conversation.
He loves his routine & prefers to be at home.
On the plus side he seems to be developing a good sense of humour, will play OK with his brother & on a 1to1 basis will interact OK.
He was born at 28 weeks has mild CP & development delay amongst other things.
Am I being over anxious, don't want to push for another appoint if just paranoid, would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Stapo - For your own piece of mind I would bring it to the attention of a professional. Do you see any in connection to his cp?
Does he go to any nursery or playgroup? If so how is he there?

thanks for your reply, he does go to playschool but a really small group 8kids to 3 teachers, he moves up to a larger group after the hols & a bit unsure how he will cope. At the moment he is generaly happy at playgroup, refuses to wear an apron so no painting & tends to stick to the same activities.
His physio has noted how quiet he is in her company but this is variable, was going to discuss it at last paeds appnt but this was when CP was formally diagnosed so ended up discussing that instead. Some days I think he is fine & it is just me other days I think ther is definately something going on. He is generally a really good little boy but the anxiety & some quirky little behaviours have me wondering!
OT are observing him at playgroup in a couple of weeks so I will speak to her then.

I agree with BH. I'd go to GP and ask about referral to Developmental Paediatrician or local CDC, if nothing to put your mind at rest. What you've written in your post is a good starting point.

Could it be a problem with his hearing? Also some children can just be sensitive to sound. When my ds was 2 - 3 he hated the sound of hand dryers, doors being shut and reacted really acutely. He seemed to just go through the phase. On the other hand my sisters daughter weas delayed speech and she had hearing problems - all rectified now.

Thanks Awen, he is reviewed by Audiology, has mild hearing loss, particularly left ear, nothing else identified, hopefully it's just a phase. Adding another grey hair.

Sounds like you've got access to people to discuss it with, starting with OT. THen you can talk about these issues (if they're still there) at next Paed appt.
