I have just come across this book about diet for SN.

Has anyone tried anything like this before? Has it helped?

Yes, search GAPS diets we've had quite a few threads on it.

My specialist Dr recommended the Body Ecology Diet as being better than the GAPS diet.

I found the GAPS diet (and the body ecology diet) too hard to do, but went 100% gluten free / dairy free, and made other changes following it.

Going GF / DF helped a lot.

Can I ask in which it helped?

I will do a search too on GAPS diets and SN. Thanks

When DS cut out milk he said "Now I don't feel sick all the time"

When he cut out gluten he said "Now I don't have a sore tummy all the time"

Consequently he was much happier and better behaved and more engaged at school.

He also stopped being constipated all the time.

But for DD the results of going GF/DF have been even more dramatic. It's improved her brain massively, ie improved her memory and processing speed and ability across all the academic subjects.

I'm fairly sure it's because the peptides from gluten and casein can react with opiate receptors in the brain, thus mimicking the effects of opiate drugs like heroin and morphine.

ie she was converting milk straight to morphine :)

Oh yes I can relate to the 'I don't feel sick any more' with dairy myself! And it did make a difference, digestion wise, to the dcs when they were little, for both of them. I stopped doing it as they looked fine going back onto dairy (well goat milk instead of cows milk but still dairy).

Very interesting re 'intellectual abilities' (if you can call it like this) too.

If you too are dairy intolerant then you'll def find the GAPS diet interesting reading.
