hi everyone,
okay soooooo, dd2 is going back to comm paeds (?asd) for review appt in Feb. She is kinda blissfully unaware of her social communication issues, and pretty much free of anxiety at home (she's the happy-go-lucky-yet-utterly-bonkers type, any problems with her friends or the world are just 'other people's problems') yet she is also bright and going to be 8years old soon...... and i will have to start explaining why we keep going to these appts....... any suggestions? It's a bit lame, but the only thing I can think of is maybe to lie and say that 'everyone goes to them?' Grin (she will probably be fine with that...........!) what do other people say?

Hi Handywoman... not lame at all, in the past i have lied to ds2 & said "everyone has to go for check ups sometimes" Sometimes that is a good enough & appropriate answer.
Now he knows that when he was a baby he was very poorly and he has to go to see doctors to check he is still well & to make sure he is managing with the things he finds hard. That sort of covers all his appnts without being too specific.
Until she is aware of any "difference" maybe a little white lie is the way to go :)

DS is only 5 but we explained that the paed was interested in how smart he was as I had told her all about how well he was doing in school, could you get away with this?

I tell my ds2 that "everyone goes". He doesn't have ASD but he does like to go all dramatic and tell random old ladies on the bus that he is "very, very poorly" whenever a trip to the hospital is mentioned. The wheelchair is genuine but the pathetic voice and the "feel sorry for me" eyes are his own invention Grin
