Hi
My dd13 (asd/pda/dyslexia/apd/spd/impaired motor skills) transitioned to the lea's generic special school in September and started their full time at the beginning of October. As far as I'm aware they aren't delivering the provision specified in the statement and my DD's behaviour is not improving at home (in some ways its worse than before) and she's asking to go back to mainstream. They say they aren't having too many issues apart from needing to put in place 1to1 support in 3 subjects (it's 3 to 1 as standard). I've discovered the staff have no more understanding of ASD than in mainstream (Infact it's less than the mainstream she was at).
I don't see them being able to meet her long term needs and helping her to gain independence. It's a shame as the staff are nice and it is a better environment. How long is reasonable to try it for? Am I being too impatient?
Dd has no self care skills and is fully dependent on adults. She goes from one meltdown to another at home as she can't cope with anything (5 year old brother missed the "c" out of his name, he watched the power rangers episodes out of order, she dropped her cheesecake on the floor - all ended up in her on the floor, rocking and screaming). This happens on just about everytime someone interacts with her at home. We cant go anywhere as she always refuses to walk. I think she needs more specialist knowledge than they have.
Thanks for reading.
