So here I am in Germany......

Thanks to huge effort on the part of all involved, not least the passport office, ds and I were able to come to Germany today.

All went brilliantly - both dds and ds fantastically behaved at the airport and on the plane. Dd1s waiting skills have really improved, and all went swimmingly.

Until we arrived.

And it became apparent that the airline had lost one of our bags. The one with all dd1's food in it. So we are now in our apartment, with nothing to feed dd1. At all. And i had pre prepared everything so it only needed heating in the tiny little kitchenettes here

Dh has gone out foraging, but I do not rate his chances of finding gf/cf food at the drop of a hat in an obscure neighbourhood of Bonn.

Bollocks.

And dd2 has no pyjamas, which were also in that suitcase. No one has a toothbrush, and I have no socks.

Still, ds is on his first holiday and so far enjoying it. No idea what to do for dinner though.

Hooray!
Don't know what cf is - if all else fails then chips!

mariammama · 29/11/2012 17:59

Bananas. Chips. Lamb chops. Chicken breasts. Eggs.

Or get him to bring back a kebab?

mariammama · 29/11/2012 17:59

Without the pitta Wink

silverfrog · 29/11/2012 18:00

Cf is casein (dairy) free.

Chips often not an option due to cross contamination from other fried foods, sadly!

We'll get by - we stayed here a couple of years ago and managed, but the kitchens are really only for heating up in, not cookig eg spag Bol from scratch so I thought I'd pre prepare since we are only here for a few days.

Best laid plans and all.

No idea what dh will manage to find at 7pm that is open in a sleepy suburb, but I have a snack box of raisins, and some chocolate for me...

X posts, maria.

Yes, most of that works, it's just finding it that's the problem now!

The girls are being fabulously patient, which is a bonus.

Great news that you made it - hope you manage to find something suitable to eat.

Ilovecake1 · 29/11/2012 18:22

So glad you made it but so sorry to hear they lost your baggage! Hope you manage to find something suitable to eat!

silverfrog · 29/11/2012 18:35

Have now unpacked.

I have no underwear, and ds has no clothes. Dd2's only casualty is her pyjamas (more problematic than it sounds, as she wears fleecey pjs due to not wanting to sleep under a blanket/duvet. This holiday may be a steep learning curve for her.

Dd1 on the other hand has no t shirts or underwear.

No nappies for ds, apart from the ones I had in hand luggage, which will at least get me through til morning thanks to assiduous overpacking on my part Grin

Had a text from dh to say he has found food, so we are eagerly awaiting his arrival.

Hopefully our suitcase will turn up at some point, but it looks like we will survive the night (I packed dd1s sleep comforter in my hand luggage, thank god, otherwise you'd all be able to hear the meltdown Wink)

Flipping heck! Never happened to me, but I went on a holiday once where another couple lost all their luggage and were in their travelling clothes for 2 days. Since then I pack a bit of everything in each suitcase just in case it goes missing, (and I colour match it, too Blush so everything will go together.) I know this doesn't exactly help you Wink but it may help someone else. Hope your case turns up soon.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 29/11/2012 19:00

Hope you find something suitable to eat.

A few years back DHs suitcase did not appear on the carousel at our destination. All he had was the clothes he was standing up in; we got some money from the airline's bag desk to go out and buy some items. His case was delivered to the hotel a couple of days later.

I learnt from that experience to place a sheet of paper on top of the packed items in thesuitcase detailing the flight taken and destination hotel. This helps in the event the suitcase has to be opened.

WilsonFrickett · 29/11/2012 19:02

Brilliant Ellen, one of the busiest, most on her plate people I 'know' colour matches her emergency luggage. Are you a Virgo by any chance? Wink

Silver, have a great holiday.

outnumberedbymen · 29/11/2012 19:16

silverfrog most big supermarkets (Globus, Kaufland, REWE, EDEKA) should do cf/gf, as should places like Alnatura, Rossmann and DM. oh, and ALDI and LIDL do lactose free milk if that helps?

How very annoying though, and stress you just do not need. I dont even want to think about the tears and tantrums we'd have if ds1 or ds2's luggage got lost. I hope you have a nice time anyway. I am only about 2 hours away from you btw Wink

silverfrog · 29/11/2012 19:21

We know where the suitcase is (got left behInd in London Hmm), and it was apparently going to be put on the next flight out, and then delivered to our apartment. It hasn't turned up Hmm Hmm

Dh found some rice pasta and frankfurters, so the dds have had something resembling a meal (along with some leftovers from lunch). We have bread/cold meats for our supper later.

We all have enough clothes (can hand wash pants for me and dd1, and borrow socks from dh) for tomorrow while we hopefully sort out suitcase etc.

Thanks, outnumbered Smile

There is a big-ish supermarket we went to last time we stayed her that we can find tomorrow. I can survive the next few days on Haribo (the factory shop is practically programmed into our satnav Grin

The most annoying thing is that the main meals I had brought along for the dds will not be edible by tomorrow, so we'll end up cooking which is what I was tryi g to avoid! Nevermind.

Have found the spare clothes for ds I packed in hand luggage, so situation there is better than I thought too.

Wilson, Grin no, I'm Taurus!

Silverfrog, surviving on Haribo doesn't sound very healthy. Good job you aren't vegetarian as well as GFCF!

chocjunkie · 29/11/2012 21:06

glad you made it :)

i second rossmann or DM markt for gf/cf food!

lol ellen - this made me laugh Grin

silverfrog · 29/11/2012 21:44

Our suitcase just arrived Grin

So all snacks and breakfast sorted, and the meals (packed with freezer packs) seem ok too - yay!

Now I can get on with the haribo shopping (you can get vege haribo too, Ellen, although not as many different ones as normal haribo) and the Christmas markets Grin
