ds is 8 and has ASD. He has had tics forever, they vary but he constantly has tics of some variety.

He does tic numerous times but not to the level that i have seen on documentaries ifykwim. They don't take all his energy as such.

I haven't really discussed his tics with anyone and in reports they are mentioned but there isn't much focus or detail. We have been so focused on getting ASD dx and really just saw the tics as part of that.

I am now considering asking for assessment or whatever is involved in getting a separate dx of tic disorder/tourettes as I have found out that some teachers are telling him off for making noises and/or disturbing the other children.

I know he is at the age were tics can become more prominent so my question is, who dx tic disorder/tourettes? is it just the paed or is it neurologist?

I have read the criteria and imo he easily fulfills it.

Maudsley hospital DX my son. He is DX with upper motor and vocal tics/Tourette's

His was mainly facial tics and vocal tics but now he has moves on to stretching his neck till it cracks, his elbows, fingers and physically grabbing and cracking his big toe before I put socks on and yes I cringe and wince a lot!

If he is diagnosed as on the spectrum then his school should know this? Them telling him off is out of order. My son has tics - humming and hand flapping - and I suspected he had TS but he's now been tentatively diagnosed as being high functioning aspergers. The ticks are not really compulsive in the way that TS tick are; more 'stimming', as in comforting. But still, you need to speak to the school to tell them to stop drawing negative attention to it
