Toots - I would ask. Its a gel which is both numbing, antiseptic and lubricating (its often used for catheters). Apparently it can sting a little when it first goes on, but then the numbing starts straight away. We smear a load around the button area before pulling the old one out and then a small squeeze actually over the stoma before popping the new one in. It comes as a prefilled syringe so is easy to apply. One hospital DS was in just used a lubricating gel (it might even have been ky!)

Isitme1 · 08/03/2013 17:21

Thats the only gastro in this area. If he doesn't agree to what I say next time I will ask for 2nd opinion as I really cant do with all the hassle ive had over the past week or so plus a newborn.
Ive heard that a lot of people use ky lube. Never myself lol.
I suppose once its in then you'll hve peace of mind.
Hes not had his clear out yet. He did a tiny bit this afternoon and he was just so upset over how much it hurt him. Takes a lot to upset him like that. I made a fuss over him once he did, lots of praise and all that.

Wow. Not long for you giddy. Excited for you!

I wonder if some fresh orange will get him going a bit?

2old2beamum · 08/03/2013 19:35

toots I have just had a thought . I always kept the new button in the fridge so when the old one needed changing the new one would not be so floppy as it was cold and would slide in easily especially if you use loads of KY jelly.
Hope that makes sense!!

sneezecakesmum · 08/03/2013 19:37

I will not ever ever be changing any buttons.. That's giddy s job thank heavens. Grin. Go for the second opinion isitme. You've been battling this too long!

NG tubes are hideous and look so uncomfortable. I never managed to get one down so gave up. Horrid things.

So tired today idiot OF switched his alarm on for 7am and is so deaf slept through it...I didn't Angry. I don't shift my carcass til after 8 Grin

giddypants · 10/03/2013 16:22

happy mothers day everyone. hope everyone is well.

having some hideous braxton hicks Sad Sad

sneezecakesmum · 10/03/2013 17:04

Have you checked with others to see what 'normal' braxton hicks are like? I cant remember Sad I am pretty sure its normal but they shouldnt be painful, just uncomfortable.

sneezecakesmum · 10/03/2013 17:11

www.babycenter.com/0_braxton-hicks-contractions_156.bc
Hope this helps. Smile Apparently near the due date they can be a bit painful. Sad Pregnancy is crap imo.

2old2beamum · 10/03/2013 17:45

speaking as a very old midwife the guru of our time (Maggie Myles) said labour was identified by contractions long, strong and increasing, bet she was a virgin Grin
Goodluck

giddypants · 10/03/2013 17:57

Thanks 2oldvery regular 6 minutes apart right now, and staying tight all the time.
Only lasting about a minute and a half, no leakage (IYKWIM) when will they start getting stronger? Don't want to be going off in the middle of the night

2old2beamum · 10/03/2013 19:28

Don't call me
One bit of advice take your knickers off or else baby wil be born with a hat on or pants if it is a footling breech.
I am getting excited.

giddypants · 10/03/2013 19:46

That really made me laugh! Grin
I think we are in the clear, still tight across the bump but not contracting anymore.

No more drama now

Poor DS just been ignored past few hours while DH was fussing around me just come out of bath and asking to go to bed, gone straight to sleep after saying goodnight to iggle piggle and charley bear. Bless, if only he would stay there all night! Grin

Thank you for your words of advice could really have had a weeping melt down if it was the real thing. I want my nice calm planned section stamps feet
Night night all x

gallivantsaregood · 10/03/2013 20:46

Hi aok, sorry this is judt a quick check in so havent had time to read all posts..

Giddy: phew ,for now. Good luck when the main event happens.

Isitme: def ask for 2nd opinion

2old: Hope all the snot is soon gone

Sneeze: You might have to do an emergency button change so never say never..... Lol

All very exciting and exhausting here. Little DS has settled really well. All my worries were unfounded. Eating and drinking loads(eating at least 6, yes6 times as much as he did forFC), sleeping 12hrs a night from 7pm ( not 10pm like he was used to!). He is a real snugglebug and so loving . Big ds is loving being a big brother and doing such a fab job of it. No sign of the green eyed monster as yet.

Sending hugs to those who need them and apologies to those whose news I've missed. Off to bed. Tomo is the 1st day I need to take luuk to school myself. Will I make it by 9am...... Place your bets now!

Night night xx

sneezecakesmum · 11/03/2013 09:40

giddypants · 12/03/2013 07:30

He's started with the runs now too, defiantly throwing some dioralyte down his tube. He's fine in himself but no nursery today, which saves my back a bit at least!
I had a things for oranges quite early on, but it gave me acid, so not worth it.
Then the need for chilli, I could literally have cried if I didn't get any!

Tootsandblanket · 12/03/2013 17:09

The knicker comment made me laugh out loud too!! Fingers crossed you don't get the tummy bug giddy.
Brilliant advice 2old about the button in the fridge. It makes perfect sense. We've still not got round to changing it as DD ow has a stay cold so ten site is sore and oozing again.
I rooted through my drugs (!) cupboard and found instilagel - I don't know when got given that- definitely not to do with her button but my mind is boggling as to how we got it... There's a lot of stuff in our drugs cupboard!
Glad to hear the little one has settled in well Gali.

sneezecakesmum · 12/03/2013 19:03

Toots. Interesting that your DD gets a funny peg site when she is unwell. I recently made buddy buttons (real easy) so will see if latest puke fest which comes complete with a runny nose affects the site or the buddies help? Tubes are brilliant for poorly LOs. Plenty of water down the tube also rice and bananas. Smile. Most staying down. DGS has developed a little game called swallow air with my water and a big burp comes up! Said to giddy 'don't let him!!!' But she did and sure enough a white waterfall erupted! 'twas funny actually Grin

2old2beamum · 12/03/2013 21:27

Oldsneeze your DGS has made me laugh I love it Grin BTW I have ordered at great expense 7 buddy buttons so thankyou Thanks

Giddy I hope you are taking it easy (hollow laugh) 14 more days TRAALAA

Galli glad your new LO has settled (never doubted he wouldn't) I must admit I found most FC's a PITA and had one who did her best to ruin the placement but 32 years on she was wrong So carry on the good work

toots what do you do for a sore PEG? DS's is fab but DD's is awful but she does have an auto-immune problem very sore PEG and nose!!

GRANDAUGHTER Where are you? I hope you and my DGGC's are ok XXX

Not too bad here all snots subsiding here but OF coughs all bloody night!!
As for Neocate Advance very loose custard like fluid coming out of colostomy and 5 litres of wind overnight. Dietician off sick so Annabel back on Peptisorb my decision.

Sleep well if you can XX

giddypants · 13/03/2013 20:17

Hope you and DS are ok isitme don't like it when your quiet! Smile

Glad to hear the snots are subsiding 2old don't know what to suggest re custard poo, I heard neocate was quite horrible!

Hope DDs peg site looking better toots

gali good to hear DS is settling in fast, I bet he knows he has a safe home for life now Smile

All ok here getting a few more braxton hicks mainly in the evening after tea, and a lot of pressure which makes me wince, DH keeps taking the piss, my answer is let me kick you in the bollocks and then see who's laughing Grin think my hormonal temper is coming out now!

DS still poorly(ish) has had 3 bouts of the runs this morning, and was sick last night, did a bit if physio then looked washed out, so had a nap, (which I'm regretting now as he won't go to sleep, but keeps trying to pull the pump over)
Think I'm in for a long night again!

13 days to go Grin

sneezecakesmum · 13/03/2013 22:07

2old. I would have made you a few buddy buttons (please dont say you ordered from america?) A facebooker makes lovely ones here too but they are not difficult ....after many crap attempts!! to make Smile My next project is to make a lycra orthotic suit as they cost around £1K and our physio is not keen on them. Just to try it out as he does well in his lycra vest (imported from US). Beginning to think I have too much time on my hands Grin

Glad all the snots are subsiding. Pillow over face works for night time coughing in my experience.....evil...Grin

Will do a few buddy buttons (my cheap imitation, but the US site tells you how they are made (haha) if anyone wants a try, supposed to be good at keeping peg sites clean Smile

Night all xx

Isitme1 · 14/03/2013 04:21
