hi my dd2 (32 months) was diagnosed with core autism last week.

we were prepared for her diagnosis and was expecting it were pleased now that we can move forward and get her the help she needs we asked where abouts on the spectrum she would be and were told shes on the severer side which we had guessed. we dont know a lot about autism but when we had been speaking to some families with little boys with asd they seemed to be a lot different to dd.

shes such a happy little girl in her own little world and loves to have cuddles. shes been making a lot more sounds recently (stopped talking when she regressed about 8-9 months ago) she is like a baby in so many ways but then she can do things that takes us by suprise - after reading on here about the app peg puzzle i downloaded it onto my phone, she loves jigsaws and was so pleased that she can do them really well on my phone too.

she has a portage worker, ot and salt she has 15 hours week place at a nursery and i take her to a sensory group and hoping to take her swimming regularly when the weathers nice as she loves water. a lot of people have mentioned getting her an ipod would help her so we think we'll get her one for her birthday in march.

if theres any other suggestions of what we can do i would greatly appreciate it :)

she also has blank episodes so we are waiting for an eeg to see if its absence epilepsy.

thanks in advance :)

We were told to get lots of mirrors and put them down low to help ds2 and ds3 get a sense of self. We had one in every room either full length or their eye level. They both spent a lot of time in front of them, licking them a lot but they were great

have you thought about music therapy? It was fantastic at helping ds2's language.

I don't think you can ever under estimate the power of music- we had songs for changing nappies, songs for drinking juice, songs for washing, going out to sainsburys - everything. It helped keep them calm and they began to join in and whilst they might not have understood the language, I'm sure the tune became familiar and helped them quell any anxiety from not knowing what was going on
