oh dear i like the idea of an island, but I don't really do heat, or sun...and ds eats sand. can i offer up a log cabin in a wintery wonderland, with a warm log fire, selection of hot chocolatey puddings and warm honey vodka?

dh is out tonight, and i can hear the cava fizzing in the fridge waiting for me..

AttilaTheMeerkat · 09/11/2012 18:45

"The eye contact is probably the TA's personal preference as she might be frustrated that she can't engage the child and thinks that if your sort eye contact you have sorted engagement"

Yes this is what is happening here although she herself stated that his eye contact has generally improved with her. (DS has some autistic traits).

Thank you star, you have made me feel a bit better.

signandsmile · 09/11/2012 18:46

ooo hazey, like the sound of that! (being rather plumptious, to put it mildly) i don't do hot either...

madwomanintheattic · 09/11/2012 18:49

I can do you winters wonderland, hazey. It's minus bleeding 18 here. Lots of snow. No semi clad hunks, but there is a man of indeterminate age and appearance under many layers of wool currently shoveling my driveway. Grin

I cancelled dd2's OT appt yesterday. The prospect of a three hour round trip in a blizzard to be told stuff we've been told in every appointment since 2003 wasn't terribly appealing.

My 'log' fire is gas, I'm afraid. I can do hot chocolate and was toying with the possibility of baking chocolate cake this afternoon - spooky. I have honey from Hampshire but I don't think vodka... I may change that though, as you've just given me an idea for the bee owner's Christmas present...

BeeMom · 09/11/2012 18:53

Hazey, being a Canadian, i do cold quite well... let's make sure the other side of the island from the warm beach is nice and cool - log cabin, roaring fireplace... all the good stuff :)

hazeyjane · 09/11/2012 18:58

Oh yes, two sides to the island, perfect. I'd like to be able to visit warm sandy mnsn oasis.

Madwoman - krupnik mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

marchduck · 09/11/2012 19:04

This sounds like a great island!
I called round at my friend's house today on the way home from collecting DS from school. The DCs went out to the back garden to play. My DD came in to tell my friend about something that had just happened when they were playing - and my friend got the gist of what she was saying. Just a few words, but I was thrilled.
I am also looking forward to a wee glass of cava tonight!

Rather interesting week here. Autism specialist visited to try to understand ds?s needs a bit better to help LA amend the statement for secondary transition (got a dx in the summer ? he?s very complex). Apparently school had not mentioned any of his sensory difficulties to her so she was rather surprised by the long list I had! He had been placed on a part-time for almost a year so they could better ?understand his needs? but obviously still have no idea what they all are Hmm. There are no suitable schools locally but there have been several hints towards one ? even the Senco has told ds that it could be good for him! Anyhow we had a long list of needs and what would be required so they have lots to think about. A few weeks ago we were told ms would be appropriate, then a unit in ms and it?s now moved on to seeing what?s available in other counties as they know we are interested in a specialist independent. She said that they had a bit of time but I said there?s not a lot of time for tribunal which surprised her I think. She said she didn?t want to go to tribunal and would hope to get it all sorted without that. We shall see.

SallyBear · 09/11/2012 19:21

I don't need an island, I just need to be able to buy the Florida villa we stayed in last year on the Gulf Coast. Smile
I don't do snow, too cold. I love Canada as my Dad lives in Toronto but I couldn't do a Canadian winter!
Had a mixed week here. DD has had a run in with a nasty TA who frankly discriminates against because she is deaf. So I've had to kick arse this week. Took DS4 back to the chiro as his sleep has been disturbed. She fixed the problem, he is back to zonking out for 10 hours a nightSmile. Then yesterday I thought I was having a stroke. Terrifying. It turned out that I had a Aura Migraine without the terrible headache.Sad
Tomorrow is DS3's 7th birthday. I looked at his baby pictures today and wondered where did the time go? He is very excited as we have presents and family tomorrow and his sports party on Sunday with 17 other little boys. I will be hitting the bottle on Sunday night!Grin

ouryve · 09/11/2012 19:38

Apart from a poorly finger and crap joints (the 2 not unrelated) I've had the least stressful week for, well, months!

Apart from DS1 almost permanently having a cob on. I'm getting used to that being our default setting.

bialystockandbloom · 09/11/2012 19:52

Oh the island sounds nice! Must have a huge lovely swimming pool with poolside bar and cocktails aplenty though.

We've had a rubbish couple of days, dd D&V bug and chest infection - supposed to be having a party for her birthday (already postponed) but doubt it'll happen now. Luckily she's young enough (3yo) to not really know as I've been playing it down. Ds will be harder to pacify, he's been planning his own "party games" for the last two weeks and is planning to be games-master god help us

Boc DS's TA starts her ASD training next week

bialystockandbloom · 09/11/2012 19:53

Ooh sallybear that sounds scary Shock Thank god it was 'only' a migraine!

MyAngelChuckles · 09/11/2012 20:06

Wow this Island sounds fantastic, can I come :)

As long as there is Wine and cake I'm happy, and DS absolutely loves sand, water AND snow, so hours of entertainment for him, and peace for me Grin

Glad your son hit his targets Atilla, as to the eye contact Hmm

I had a rocky start to the week, getting a bit obsessive concerning a meeting I was to have this morning but it seemed to go so well that I've had a smile plastered to my face all day, normally I come out thinking I should have said this, or mentioned that, or not got derailed, only one thing I'm not sure about, but will deal with that when the ammended comes through and DS has been mostly fine this week aswell, only one meltdown :)

MyAngelChuckles · 09/11/2012 20:10

And happy Brithday to Sallybears DS3, sounds scary thinking you were having a stroke though.

(meant to preview and hit post instead, can't find an edit button so sorry for double post Blush)

hazeyjane · 09/11/2012 20:32

How are you feeling today, sallybear? Hope you managed to get all the organising done for ds3's birthday.

Aah peace, dds are asleep, ds is curled up asleep next to me (wouldn't go to sleep anywhere else - he has been even clingier than usual all day, and crying a lot - finger's crossed he isn't coming down with something) dh is at the pub, i have a glass of cava and a bowl of peanuts (ninja squirrel stylee) - heaven.

moosemama · 09/11/2012 20:32

Flying visit again this evening. Can't see the screen properly thanks to yet more neuro/visiony stuff going on - most annoying.

Sally, those migraines are really scary if you don't know what's going on. Not many people realise how badly a migraine can affect your whole body, tingling, vision, speech, balance etc and that you can get all of the above without the classic migraine pain. Hope you are feeling better today. I always get a couple of days migraine hangover after mine, so make sure you get enough sleep (lol) and take good care of yourself.

Ds was a mess going back to school after half term this week - what with moving down in maths etc. I emailed his lovely inclusion teacher and she decided to cancel another school especially to come and help him work through it all. Turned out to be very valuable, as we exchanged several emails and then popped round to see me after she'd seen him and we had a really good chat. Verrry interesting, as it seems things the school has told us they are doing at her instigation, not only didn't come from her, but she was pretty Hmm and Angry that they were happening at all and has started asking school some questions that they will certainly be finding a tad uncomfortable. She's also got her boss involved and she's been into school as well.

Finally got the school's version of the meeting notes from the meeting dh had with them before half term. Not only have they clearly implied that ds is fine at school and the problem lies with home, they have had a good go at twisting what was agreed and lying about the work they say the inclusion teacher has told them to do with him (which we now know she definitely hasn't). Ds is compiling his response this weekend.

Ds is pale, wobbly, tic-ing, has reflux, eczema and has constant upset stomach. He is having regular massive emotional meltdowns, isn't sleeping, is having awful nightmares and is generally a wreck, but is at least a little happier this evening, as he has a lovely weekend planned - school bonfire tonight, Pokemon League club tomorrow and then he's been invited to his best friend's house for tea on Sunday to celebrate his birthday with him.

Oh - and the inclusion team held a borough-wide ASD training forum at our school one evening this week. Our PP rep called this afternoon and told me that none of our own school's TAs (including ds's TA, who also works with another younger child with ASD) attended, whereas there were lots from other schools across the borough. As she quite rightly said, this clearly demonstrated the school's attitude towards supporting their pupils who have ASD. Angry

SallyBear · 09/11/2012 20:44

Moose! Your poor boy. Reflux is horrible and is much more serious than a lot of people credit it with.

Thank you for all your good wishes. Horrible experience, and makes you realise that you're not Supermum. I never stop to think about myself, but worry about all four DC. I'm back for a blood test on Monday as I don't suffer from headaches or get sick. When I do, it knocks me for six!

So I am going to forget about it and enjoy DS3's birthday celebrations. He is very excited. DS4 got invited to a party tomorrow, but it is in wet soft play area which would give him a horrible sensory overload so thankfully I could decline because its DS3's birthday tomorrow.

So having wine while waiting for my moussaka to cook!

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 09/11/2012 21:26

Hi all Quick post as its my birthdayGrin

Sallybear- I've had aura migraines. Was admitted twice as a&e also thought I was having a stroke. Was pg at the time it started too. Whilst they are really unsettling in some ways I cope better with them than the splitting head type of migraine (so long as I don't have to hold a conversation or keep my balance). Sleeping them off really helps if you have the luxury...

Moose - dd has reflux. You and your ds also have my sympathy.

Night all, I'm hoping for some cake and Wine

StarlightMcKenzie · 09/11/2012 21:31

I really have let things fall apart. Kids still up.....

StarlightMcKenzie · 09/11/2012 21:31

Happy Birthday Lola

hazeyjane · 09/11/2012 21:55

Happy Birthday LolaSmile

very important question - I have smarties or chocolate ice cream - which should I go for?

SallyBear · 09/11/2012 22:11

Lola, happy birthday!

Hazeyjane can't you have the smarties on your chocolate ice-cream? Grin

hazeyjane · 09/11/2012 22:13

I was worrying about someone suggesting that, I'm a bit funny about mixing foods together....maybe I could have the smarties on the side.
