We have been concerned about DS1 for a while but am going to GP tomorrow to see if he thinks an appointment with a peadiatrician would be a good idea. He is 6yrs old.
So here are our concerns....
Physical - gross co-ordination is poor - not very bad just a tendency to fall over, bump into things, knock things over, spill things, poor balance, etc - more than you would expect for his age but not so a stranger would notice
Speech - has a speech disorder - better than it was with SALT but poor phonology and some unusual grammar and vocabulary errors (he/she confusion, grey/brown confusion)
Behaviour - often plays alone and sometimes appears to struggle at getting involved in the games of others, can be immature, poor eye contact. Likes to do things 'his way'
Concentration - struggles to divert his attention away from what he wants to be doing - gets engrosed in his choice of activities and is easily distracted from anyone elses choice! Sometimes struggles to follow verbal instructions.
Literacy - Really struggling to learn to read and write. b/d confusion, m/w confusion, writes 'or' instead of 'or', just about knows single phonemes but digraphs are a really confusion.
So is this all normal for a 'young' Year 2 boy or is there something more.
His general ability is not a concern, his above average in maths, but can sometimes appear to not understand. Hearing and vision have been checked in the past.
TIA
