Oh gosh, that must have been a shock.

There will probably be a local Down's syndrome specialist team in your area. Perhaps contact your health visiting team in the morning and tell them what has happened, ask if there is a down's syndrome specialist health visitor that you can speak to. She will then be able to flag up any support groups, services etc that you can plug in to.

There are also websites such as downsed and down sydrome international (google) and i think they may have message boards if you want more specific info.

Be gentle to yourself - it's okay and not disloyal to your baby son to have a good cry while you try to get your head round this new reality. The time will come where you will be okay again. I know we don't 'do ' them here - but have a ((hug)).

Thank you. I will check out the websites in the morning.

Don't be scared. It won't be long before you wonder what you were scared of because you have a beautiful baby boy.

This blog post with the most gorgeous baby might help. It runs through the emotions the downs and the ups with photos capturing most moments!

Welcome to the board.

Hope your little man arrives safe and sound, and that he is as cute, smart and gorgeous as my friend's fabulous bubba with DS. And if there were a few additional problems... no point worrying till it'd change something for the better.

Congratulations on your baby! My ds is almost five and was born with DS. I didn't have a pre-natal diagnosis and found out the day he was born, but the feelings of being scared and overwhelmed were just the same.

I agree with ilovemysleep about being gentle with yourself...take one day at a time and don't feel guilty for having a good cry. Also try not to overload yourself with too much info ( says she who went into a google frenzy after ds was born!!)

We often have expectant mums at our new parent support group. Many parents find speaking to other families about their personal experiences and meeting children with DS hugely beneficial. Our group also has a new parent contact who comes to your house if you wish. The DSA website should have details of any local support networks.

Congratulations. I am a mum of 3 DC's with DS (all adopted) and they have given us so much pleasure and pride. My only real advice don't dwell on the negatives. Your LO will never go out and hurt anyone, steal, get roaring drunk and throw up over your new cream carpet. My 3 are so compassionate it makes me want to weep So please enjoy him, you will have a lovely son.
BTW there are worse things than a baby with DS our DS4 is deafblind/cp/epilepsy. I know his quality of life is poor compared with DS.
remember he is a baby first not Downs
Good luck please keep in touch.
