i took all my dd's down the local shop on sunday to get some food. dd1 saw some of her friends and said hello, they said hi back, dd2 said 'hello' in a pitched screechy voice. i heard them mutter 'she's weird' and go off giggling.

is that what we are goign to face at times? the kids in question were no more than 9. they go to dd1 school.

i know i should let it go, but i cant. dd2 isnt weird, she is a little errrrr odd, but not weird.

speaking as someone who was always the weird kid i wouldn't panic too much, bit tough as a kid but makes you a much stronger, more independant adult. there'll be kids who'll be her friends, just not the pretentious, superficial kids and thats a good thing isn't it?

I always got this as a kid. It hurt at the time but I wouldn't change a thing about my childhood. I've come to like the very eccentric but cool person that is me. I am also very compassionate. I agree with Eve that this kind of thng can make you stronger rather than break you. But I do feel for her because it is hard. I just had to come around to the view that people who hurt others people who are different and make them feel left out are not people I am interested in impressing or having as friends. It is better to be a bit odd than be a superficial jerk anyday.
