SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

'Problem' in magazine - from a 'poor poor woman' who is so incredilbly stressed at having to deal with parents of SN children "who think the world revolves around them..." Grr!

I have to vent about this here as I would get nowhere by venting at the magazine!

Serves me right for buying/reading what is not actually a very good mag after all (Spirit & Destiny). There is an alternative-type problem page featuring a letter from someone who works in an additional needs office of an LEA and whose job is to 'get special needs children the help they need in school...'

I think she needs to look for another job! With her attitude I doubt she has the desire, let alone the ability, to help SN children ahchieve anything! She is appealing to the white witch lady (whose page it is!) to help her improve the 'negative atmosphere' in her office where she and her collegues have to spend all day everyday dealing with parents "who clearly think the world revolves around them..."

I SO wanted to say this person.. "excuse ME!.. but you might like to consider that most of the parents phoning your office are doing so because the child's needs are failing to be met... and may well have been for some time.. and they are probably stressed, upset and knackered, not just with dealing with their childs additional needs 24/7 but also because of the fact that they have to FIGHT tooth and nail in order to get their child provisions which are their most basic entitlements.. and often written very blackly on their statement for all to ignore!

We don't think the world revolves around us or our children.. we'd would however like to be able to revolve with it in the same fashion as everyone else!! Angry

Thank you. Big sigh :)

(By the way, the white witch suggested lemon juice wiped over the desks (!). I personally would like to ram several lemons up the letter writer's a*rse. That should banish her negativity nicely! Grin)

LMAO tht would be a shock for her Wink what a moany old cow.

threebob · 24/03/2006 03:32

I'm sure the lemon juice will be just the thing to sort the moany old bag out - more acid - just what she needs. hum!

getbakainyourjimjams · 24/03/2006 03:41

oh its no wonder so many children with SN are being so badly let down. Can I add a lemon as well.

MeerkatsUnite · 24/03/2006 06:56

This woman certainly needs a lemon up her jacksi along with a new job!. She should be taking up her issues with her employers rather than gripe to a problem page.

Getting a statement is difficult enough as it is without having people with such attitudes to deal with as well. I realise that not all LEA staff are like this (the ones I've met face to face have come across as quite humane) but people like her give the good ones a bad rap.

KarenThirl · 24/03/2006 06:58

I've heard that grapefruit can be quite effective. Or melons. We could sell tickets!

Miaou · 24/03/2006 07:29

What a shocking and depressing attitude. She clearly has no empathy with the people she is there to help!

I suggest pineapple Wink

tigermoth · 24/03/2006 07:57

oh, this is a prime example of a certain type of self centred, breathtakingly tactless, inward looking attitude that I have seen in some people who consider themselves 'new age' or have read in alternative literature. It's one of my parp subjects!

Shock Not an SN mum, but can I add a pineapple to the pile of fruit!?

So much for peace & love etc! The woman shouldn't be around parents full stop - SN or otherwise! At the end of the day, every parent does everything in their power to get what is needed for their child, SN moreso as they have more areas that need fighting.

Her office'd be a lot less negative if she quit!

Caligula · 24/03/2006 09:17

Have you got a link? I'm curious to see this bizarre sounding publication.

What extraordinarily rubbish advice - not very holistic, is it, recommending rubbing something around without looking at the feelings, attitudes etc. which cause negativity.

This sort of thing does rather back up the steoreotype of new agers disconnected from reality.

Miaou · 24/03/2006 09:18

Beat ya to it, Flamey Wink

coppertop · 24/03/2006 09:32

The poor woman. All that negativity draining her energy.....

Flamesparrow · 24/03/2006 09:32

Grin We could tie them together so that they are very wide spikes!

getbakainyourjimjams · 24/03/2006 09:55

Reminds me of the stress counsellor who was invited to talk to a bunch of parents of autistic kids and came back the next week and said that she'd felt so depressed after talking to us that she had to go home and sit in her garden with a cool drink and complete quiet for a few hours to recover.

WTF?

Hope she had some lemon in her drink :o

getbakainyourjimjams · 24/03/2006 09:55

coppertop??? have i missed something?

LOL. Bet she works in Lambeth!
White witch or not (and I am in Tigermoth's camp here) she needs to understand that change for SN children comes thorugh the earthly actions of paid workers...HER!

Big rough hairy coconut here at the ready.....

emmalou78 · 24/03/2006 13:27

I know technicaly its a vegetable but could we drop definition standards and add a good sized pumpkin to the pile?

r3dh3d · 24/03/2006 15:00

Do prickly pears count as fruit?

getbakainyourjimjams · 24/03/2006 15:06

I hope the woman's had a good lemon spray - there;s a lot of negativity directed at her today :o

SleepyJess · 24/03/2006 16:41

I will look to see if I can find the article online.. if not I will scan it in and upload it to photo bucket. Stand by. And [snurk] at all your excellent reponses and kind fruit contributions... Grin

Here is the \link{http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v309/bullfrog2112/Silja.jpg\article}. It's in the middle amongst the other problems. It's not the 'witchiness' of the is annoying (not that spells et al are my thing but I'm open minded or else I wouldn't have bought the mag in the first place).. it's the fact that this 'problem' was deemed worthy of printing/ANY kind of response. And no mention in the response that perhaps the woman's attitide to her job was the biggest problem!

SleepyJess · 24/03/2006 18:46

Oh I am typing sh*te tonight!! You know what I mean! And am not sure it's big enough so you might have to save it and increase the size yourself.. sorry.. have too many kids here (twice as many as normal! Shock) to arse about with the scanner any more..
