note from ed pysch requesting permission for statutoryassessment

H ello I was wondering if anyone with knowledge of the statementing process can help me .My three year old has autism and learning difficulties , the Ed pysch came to observe her yesterday and today Igot a note from preschool requesting permission to apply for assessment.Does this mean she will get a statement thank you for any help

No. It means that the school would like her to be assessed for one.

The stages are as follows (from what I've worked out):

a) Someone, either parents or educational setting request statutory assessment
b) Information is gathered by Local Authority
c) LA decide whether to carry out Stat. Ass.
d) If they decide they will carry out SA, they gather more information
e) They look at all the info and decide whether to statement
f) If they decide to statement, they put together a draft statement
g) Discussion goes into the draft statement
h) Statement is finalised.

So, at the moment you're at the stage before a) - preschool want to request SA but are checking that you won't contest it.

We're at d) - received letter saying LA will assess this morning. So now they are gathering more paperwork...

If school are wanting to request, then that's hopefully a good sign, as it means they're on side with you.
