Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia - Auditory Processing Disorder been tested?

I don't know anything about auditory processing disorder. DS has developmental verbal dyspraxia and has some issues still with loud noises, easily distracted if noisy environment, doesn't pay any attention if too much noise around. Should I get DS tested? He's 5. Can anyone tell me who carries out this test - if it's available on NHS?

Thanks!!

My son has been assessed by the APD clinic at GOSH. Parents and GPs are not able to refer. The referral has to come from a paed. I can send you copies of the questionnaires they use if you PM with your email address. Takes a long time and the report will not specify or quantify but at least if this is an issue the teaching staff will understand that particular problems are likely to be a result of not be able to hear/understand and that interventions are not optional. Teaching staff are very bad at recognising auditory processing difficulties as children adopt all kinds of coping mechanisms (lip reading, copying) to hide their problems. CT completed questionnaires reported no problems whatsoever but the assessments override ignorant opinion.

There is also an APD clinic now at Machester - so my paed has said.

Can audiologist refer to? I have been trying to hold of audiology from discharging so I can get them to refer. They said ds would not be able for the test last time he was seen. He is neatly 7 now.
Sorry to Hijack.

GOSH will only accept tertiary referrals (ie consultant led hospital clinic) but not limited to paediatricians. I think there is also a private referral route - check out their website. My DS is 11 so I don't know about 'being too young' but there have been earlier threads about this issue.

DD was 7 when she was seen at GOSH for APD. Our referral route went along the lines of GP to audiology (clear) to paed, back to audiology before the referral made to GOSH. We had specifically requested the referral early on on the basis of an Ed Psych report done at school. DD finally has her diagnoses - ASD, APD, dyspraxia and hypermobility all likely linked to a genetic deletion that has been found. It took a long time to get through all the different information though and get people to listen and act.
