Sorry if this has been posted before, this will be of interest to anyone in Wales - it's about the proposal to replace Statements.

Thanks cwtches for posting. Hadn't seen that before, dd hasn't got a statement as yet as she attends a special unit at the moment. Who knows where she'll go next tho, so useful to keep an eye on this.

Thanks for that, not very happy that they seem to be wanting to remove the legal enforcement that a statement currently has, but having a webbased plan that moves with you when you move areas could be a good idea (at least it is if you move from a 'good' provision area to a poorer one.)

Thanks for that.

LittleMissGreen - the document categorises levels of additional needs: additional, significant and severe/complex. I think the idp will have legal protection for children with significant or severe/complex needs, same as current statemented children. Idp will also be introduced for children with additional needs, but not legally protected, analogous to the note in lieu it seems.

I'm a bit Hmm about disagreement resolution requirement before lodging an appeal with sentw. More time wasting.

Tiggles · 20/09/2012 13:37

I can see it says that they will get 'entitlement protection' but does it say anywhere that there should be a legal entitled protection.
But I was looking at the child friendly version that has a question
Section 4) Do you agree that the education, health, and social
services should be under a legal obligation to play an active part in
delivering services for learners with significant and severe and/or
complex needs?
In the adult response form it says
Do you agree that multi-agency working ? see section 4 ? should be a requirement in the delivery of this reform proposal, i.e. that the statutory partners of education, health, and social services should be under a legal obligation to play an active part in devising and delivering services for learners with significant and severe and/or complex needs?

Which is why I would be concerned they don't want it to be legally enforced.

In the consultation document, section 3.4 says the term entitlement protection describes IDPs that will have the same legal protection as a statement. The severe/complex and significant sub groups of needs are both proposed to have entitlement protection.

Thanks Frenchplait, I've only had time to skim the document-been working days and nights recently, with the odd hour (literally) off :)
