Hello all,
I thought I would ask here as I know some of your children are on gluten/casein free diets.my DD aged 2 has recently been diagnosed with coeliac disease and is on a gf diet (which has already made a massive difference) but she still suffers in the evenings occasionally and I believe this is due to casein intolerance.
She has had the urine test from anulotos(not sure if right spelling) which surprisingly showed no peptides for gluten but one was dominant for casein.(I did speak to them about this but as coeliac is an autoimmune disease the peptides wouldn't necessarily show
up).
Anyway,I digress, basically I am finding it hard to find substitute margarine and cheese without having to go to America!
Any ideas where I could find some or alternative ingredients.i am also concerned about her calcium intake as with coeliac disease bone density can be very weak.
Any advice would be much appreciated.thanks.

My DD (3.10) is GF/CF.

We use this instead of butter/margarine www.puredairyfree.co.uk/index.php

we just don't have cheese I'm afraid. But for pizza's I buy gluten free bases and mix Humous with tomatoe puree and spread that on the base (my vegan friend told me this tip, makes it lovely and creamy and not too dry with no cheese).

With regard to calcium intake we buy almond milk and it has added calcium and 2 glasses of that a day is enough for her clacium intake.

I tend to forget about substituting and just eat a bit differently. HTH

we use pure too.

no cheese here for a long while.

we did try using goat/sheep/buffalo milk an cheese for a while - with some success. but ultimately at that point dd1 could not tolerate those either. the protein is slightly different, and some people find they can substitute these easily. dd2 was ok with goat's cheese, for eg.

there is also a theory that we don't need as much calcium from diet as is often suggested - Mike Tettenbaum used to talk about this. apparently weight bearing exercise can be as beneficial.

houmous is a good source of calcium, though, isn't it?
